Laboratory Intern/Technician

Seeking a talented and highly motivated student or recent college graduate for a part-time position with the quality laboratory of an essential oil and specialty fragrance supply company. The Perfumery has an established brand with high-quality, long-tenured, and loyal customers in a fast-paced and expanding market segment. Currently, the business is a growing and profitable, growth equity backed, lower middle market enterprise. Significant opportunity exists in learning this niche fragrance industry and developing analytical skills within the company’s quality laboratory and other related departments. The company is currently located in New Albany, Indiana and is within walking distance of Indiana University Southeast.
Candidate Requirements/Preferences
Graduate or current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or a science related field required
2+ years of experience in a laboratory setting preferred
Strong technical knowledge of analytical chemistry, specifically Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry
Experience with sample preparation, wet chemistry, laboratory instrumentation, and data entry/integrity
Exhibits strong critical thinking, attention to detail, organizational skills, and a willingness to learn
The Laboratory Intern/Technician is a part-time position at The Perfumery, LLC. This individual is responsible for sample preparation for laboratory testing, including: physical constants (optical rotation, refractive index, and specific gravity), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) analysis, and organoleptic evaluation. Preparation of quality documents such as certificates of analysis (COA), standard operating procedures (SOP), safety data sheets (SDS), internal specifications, and other scientific information will be expected as well as experiencing and learning the production workflows. The laboratory intern/technician will be responsible for data entry, literature reviews, and will work on research/development projects and any other assigned tasks including laboratory maintenance.
Major Responsibilities/Competencies
Sample preparation for GCMS and physical constants testing
Ensuring samples are prepared timely and accurately within production and customer demands
Data entry and data integrity
Research and development
Creating quality documentation
Archiving and organizing production samples
Collaborating, understanding, and familiarizing with other department functions and procedures
Utilizing data and scientific literature to create or revise product specifications
Assisting with responsibilities of Analytical Chemists, Formulation Chemists, and Quality Scientists
Learning, troubleshooting, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation and equipment
Visual inspections involving color evaluation and aroma inspections using sense of smell
