Marketing & Communications Intern – AGBT

Location: In-person at The Foundry (occasional remote work permitted)
Start Date: Immediate
Pay: $20/hour
Time Commitment: 20 hours/week
Internship Length: One semester, with potential to extend based on performance and mutual agreement

Advances in Genome Biology and Technology (AGBT) is a leading non-profit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to advancing the understanding and application of genomics and biotechnology. Through world-class meetings, AGBT brings together the brightest minds in science, medicine, and innovation to accelerate breakthroughs in precision health, life sciences, and genomics.

Our mission is to create dynamic forums for researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and industry leaders to connect, collaborate, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in health and science. About the Internship

We’re seeking a creative, driven, and detail-oriented Marketing & Communications Intern to support our small, dynamic team. This individual will work closely with our communications and marketing staff to assist with social media, content creation, CRM cleanup, trend research, and media outreach, while gaining real-world experience in non-profit event marketing and digital communications.

This is a hands-on, in-person internship designed for someone who’s not just looking to “check a box,” but who’s truly excited to roll up their sleeves and contribute in meaningful ways. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, collaborative, and passionate about learning.

 

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications Support

  • Assist in content creation for social media, newsletters, and web (graphics, posts, copywriting, etc.)
  • Monitor industry trends, influencer activity, and digital innovation to inform content strategy
  • Track and report on social media analytics and engagement metrics
  • Support media outreach and help maintain press lists
  • Assist in the planning and promotion of AGBT meetings and key announcements

CRM Cleanup & Database Management

  • Review and update CRM contact records for completeness and accuracy
  • Conduct basic research using LinkedIn or company websites to verify missing data (e.g., names, titles, companies)
  • Identify and merge duplicate contacts
  • Remove outdated or irrelevant entries and clean up inconsistent fields
  • Apply standardized formatting and proper tagging (e.g., sponsor, attendee, speaker)
  • Document any issues or anomalies for follow-up

General Operations

  • Provide logistical or administrative support for team projects
  • Assist with special assignments and campaign coordination
  • Contribute ideas and creative input to strategy sessions

 

What We’re Looking For

  • A creative, curious, and motivated student with an interest in marketing, communications, digital media, and life sciences
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Understanding of social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter/X, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and research skills
  • Comfortable using LinkedIn and other online tools
  • Basic familiarity with CRM tools (HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.) is a plus
  • Tech-savvy and quick to learn new platforms
  • A team player with a positive, professional, and flexible attitude
  • Someone who is proactive, forward-thinking, and excited to contribute
