Job Description:
 

The State University of New York (SUNY) Office of Workforce Development and Upward Mobility is seeking individuals experienced with industry and higher education for the position of Regional Internship Coordinator in the expanded SUNY Internship and Employer Partnerships Program. This position will report to the Director of Internships and Employer Partnerships. The primary role of the Regional Internship Coordinator is to grow high-quality internships for all undergraduate students within the SUNY system, a key component of fulfilling SUNY's four pillars (student success; research and scholarship; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and economic development and upward mobility). SUNY is currently searching for five Regional Internship Coordinators in the following locations:

  • Buffalo
  • Brooklyn
  • Yonkers
  • Brentwood
  • Utica

Duties of the Regional Internship Coordinator:

  • Work with businesses -- especially those with limited HR infrastructure -- to develop, structure, and promote meaningful internship opportunities, including job descriptions and learning plans.
  • Collaborate with external partners such as NYS Department of Labor Career Centers, Chambers of Commerce, local workforce boards, and campuses to support applied learning initiatives.
  • Represent SUNY's Internship and Business Partnerships program by attending regional meetings, events, and committees related to applied learning and workforce development.
  • Support outreach and relationship-building with employers, faculty, and community organizations to enhance student access to internships and applied learning experiences.
  • Create and update outreach and promotional content such as social media posts, flyers, newsletters, email templates, and intern resource packets.
  • Monitor program communication channels, respond to routine inquiries, and direct messages to appropriate team members as needed.
  • Collect and manage data related to internships by distributing surveys, compiling responses, and assisting in the preparation of reports, charts, and summaries for tracking and evaluation.
  • Maintain and update program calendars, deadlines, and event schedules to support planning and communication across stakeholders.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for events, meetings, and virtual sessions including RSVPs, materials preparation, and follow-ups.
  • Assist with maintaining up-to-date documentation, shared folders, and internal tools that support team operations and stakeholder communication.
  • Provide day-to-day support to the Director and broader program team, including other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
 

Required Qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience in employer engagement, career services, workforce development, or talent pipeline work; or Associate Degree and at least 5 years of experience in employer engagement, career services, workforce development, or talent pipeline work; or Bachelor's Degree and at least 3 years of experience in employer engagement, career services, workforce development, or talent pipeline work.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Comfortable maintaining digital files, spreadsheets, and checklists utilizing Microsoft Office 365. Ability to learn and implement new technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and ability to draft emails, flyers, and basic reports.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders including employers, students, and campus staff from varying geographical areas, industries, and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of labor market trends, internship best practices, and regional industry needs.
  • Responsible, reliable, and able to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision once trained.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience working with small to mid-sized employers or in a chamber/college setting.
  • Bilingual or multicultural experience a plus.

 


Additional Information:
 

  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is NOT available for this position.
  • Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $56,000- $60,000 annually ($4,000 stipend for downstate locations).
  • State Title: Staff Assistant (SL-2) and is part of the United University Professions Union.
  • This position is full time for up to 24 months and is supported through a grant and is contingent upon continued funding. Renewal beyond the initial term is possible, subject to grant extension and program needs.
