Overview:

Join our growing team at My Baby My Way Foundation, where we are redefining maternal and reproductive health for BIPOC women and underserved families across California. As a Promotora / Community Health Worker (CHW) Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience in community health education, advocacy, and digital health outreach while being mentored by professionals dedicated to health equity and women’s empowerment.

This is a structured educational internship designed to provide a learning experience similar to an academic setting. The intern is the primary beneficiary of this opportunity.
This internship is remote, part-time, and open to all students (hybrid positions are California only.)

Duration: Mid-Fall & Winter Session (~10–12 weeks)
Compensation: Upon successful completion of 120 hours, interns are eligible to receive a $750 stipend (optional).

Supervision & Mentorship:

All interns receive direct supervision, structured feedback, and mentorship throughout the internship. Each intern is assigned a Supervisor and Mentor with professional backgrounds in public health, maternal wellness, and community advocacy.

Supervision: Interns report directly to a Program Coordinator or Senior CHW who provides weekly oversight.

Regular Feedback: Supervisors conduct daily and weekly check-ins, review tasks, and provide constructive feedback on performance, communication, and skill development.

Mentoring: Interns participate in guided certification sessions focused on professional growth, goal setting, and community engagement strategies.

Evaluation: A final performance review is conducted at the end of the internship to measure progress, learning outcomes, and readiness for future opportunities.

Professional Guidance: Supervisors hold certifications and experience in CHW practice, trauma-informed care, and maternal health education, ensuring interns receive qualified and ethical guidance.

This structure ensures that each intern benefits from a supportive learning environment designed to enhance both academic and professional competencies.

Learning Outcomes:

Through this internship, you will:

Gain experience in maternal and reproductive health education.

Learn how to conduct community outreach and connect families with essential services.

Develop skills in health promotion, trauma-informed care, and advocacy.

Build understanding of public health systems, including Medi-Cal and community supports.

Strengthen your communication, cultural competency, and service navigation skills through supervised mentorship.

Sample Intern Responsibilities:

Provide culturally sensitive education on prenatal, postpartum, and family wellness (under supervision).

Support birthing individuals with birth plans, breastfeeding, and maternal rights education.

Assist in connecting clients to reproductive health, mental health, and nutrition resources.

Participate in community outreach to link families to Medi-Cal and health services.

Promote and support client engagement with MyBabyMyWay.AI, our digital maternal wellness app.

Attend supervised training sessions and weekly reflection meetings.

Training & Certification Requirements:

All interns are required to complete the following:

Promotora / Community Health Worker (CHW) Training

Foundations of Maternal & Family Health

Cultural Competency & Advocacy for BIPOC Communities

Trauma-Informed Care

Confidentiality & HIPAA Compliance

Introduction to MyBabyMyWay.AI Digital Tools

Mandated Reporter Certification (State-Approved; may be obtained through MBMW)

CPR & First Aid Certification with CHW Enhancement

Offered exclusively through My Baby My Way Foundation

Provided in partnership with the American Heart Association

Certification valid for two years

Background Check Clearance

Required before engaging in active client fieldwork

Upon completion of all training components, interns receive official Certificates of Completion.

Qualifications:

Passion for maternal health, equity, and advocacy

Excellent communication and follow-up skills

Interest in public health, social services, or maternal wellness

Bilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages) a plus

Reliable, responsible, and committed to professional growth

Must pass a background check and complete required certifications prior to field engagement

FLSA & Educational Purpose Statement:

This internship is designed as a structured educational experience led by qualified staff. Interns gain practical public health skills focused on learning and professional development — not replacing paid employees.

Academic credit may be arranged in collaboration with your college or university.
