Human Resources Intern

 

Position Summary

The Human Resources Intern assists in the day-to-day tasks of the HR team at VGM Group. In addition to routine tasks, this role will perform duties in respect to employee engagement, record keeping, coordination of executive scheduling, meetings and conferences, and work on special projects. 

As an intern with HR, you will need a willingness to learn and be adaptable, as well as high independent judgment to lead, plan, prioritize, and organize a highly diversified workload. We believe our interns provide great feedback in creating efficiencies and providing support to the services of Human Capital. Extreme confidentiality is an expectation in the role. 

Reporting Accountability: VP of HR

Working Location: Waterloo, Iowa – remote work is permitted with occasional visits to the office

Work Hours Classification: Part-time internship from approximately November through mid February

Responsibilities/Duties of the Job

In providing excellent service to our internal customers as a part of a central service, one will:

  • Coordinate with others across the company to complete Human Resources projects and facilitate communication while they are in progress
  • Support and maintain the use and administration of the Performance Management tool in ADP
  • Support VGM Human Resources in communication and engagement outreach efforts, e.g. VGM Biweekly newsletter
  • Facilitate proper employee documentation and record keeping in the HR system(s), compiling reports as needed to ensure employee databases remain accurate and up to date
  • Audits documents: inclusive of SOC and Accreditation requirements, organizational charts, HR documents, Job descriptions etc.
  • Maintain the accurate record keeping and filling of training dollars and funds, inclusive of, but not limited to, Iowa 260E and 260F
  • Provides support to the new hire onboarding process
  • This role will at times require off-hours when projects, events and functions occur

Position Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma required; in progress for an HR related degree is preferred
  • Administrative experience is preferred

Skills and competencies:

  • The ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point to produce professional-looking documents
  • A highly adaptable attitude, with the ability to change direction quickly
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Proactive and self-motivated approach to work, with the ability to solve problems and work independently with very little direction or prompting
  • A calm, pleasant, & business-appropriate communication style that can convey ideas efficiently and professionally
  • A professional appearance and service-oriented demeanor that inspires confidence and trust.
  • Strong skills as a thorough and careful reader, writer, and speaker
  • The ability to work ethically and with the highest regard for integrity, maintaining confidentiality always
  • A willingness to take on almost any task and provide effective solutions, even on short notice
  • A willingness and drive to learn and succeed!

Physical Requirements:  

  • Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment
  • Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision
  • Moving throughout the VGM facilities and traveling to and from campuses
  • Projects and tasks may require working outside standard position hours of 8am-5pm
