Director of Operations (In-Person)

Job Title: Director of Operations | In-Person 

Reports to: Director of Education | Manages: Operations Coordinator  

Overview: Whatcom Intergenerational High School (WIHS) is seeking a visionary and equity-driven Director of Operations (DOO) with a strong background in operational systems, continuous improvement, finance, compliance, and team management. The DOO is a vital member of the school administration team and manages all non-instructional school functions. 

WIHS is a small, public charter high school serving students from across Whatcom County, many of whom have been underserved by traditional education systems. We seek a leader committed to restorative practices, collaborative decision-making, and innovative instruction. 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership, Culture, and Team Management

  • Partner with the Director of Education (DOE) to set the vision for school operations.
  • Supervise operations staff, manage vendor contracts, and oversee special projects/events.
  • Support school culture, relationship-building, problem-solving, and accountability across the team.

Compliance, Reporting, and Student Services

  • Ensure state/federal compliance processes, data accuracy, and deadlines (e.g., Title I, Special Education, safety, immunizations, free/reduced lunch).
  • Oversee student information systems, attendance reporting, and data audits.
  • Manage recruitment, enrollment, orientation, safety drills, visitor procedures, and student health compliance.
  • Oversee meal program operations, compliance, ordering, and vendor logistics.

Finance, Facilities, and Technology

  • Oversee procurement, payroll, reimbursements, expense tracking, and budget monitoring.
  • Manage facility upkeep, maintenance, safety, and aesthetics.
  • Oversee technology systems, hardware/software inventory, and tech support coordination,

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in instructional leadership, school leadership, or academic coordination.
  • Commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive leadership.
  • Experience supporting diverse student populations and inclusive learning environments.
  • Strong background in curriculum development, teacher coaching, and school-wide instructional planning.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years in operations management, finance, or management consulting.
  • Knowledge of financial models and experience managing budgets (education/nonprofit sector preferred).
  • Proven success in establishing or improving operational systems.
  • Strong compliance background, attention to detail, and critical problem-solving skills.

Where You’ll Work:  WIHS is located inside the Bellis Fair Mall in northern Bellingham, WA—just 90 minutes north of Seattle. This is an on-site leadership role. Relocation or reliable commuting is required.
