Job purpose

 

  • The Finance Manager has the primary responsibility for financial reporting and preparation for annual audit/review, accounts payable and receivables as well as employee benefits administration. Assists the CEO in development and stewardship of the annual budget. The Finance Manager also serves as office manager for the organization, reviewing and approving expenditures by the organization in the absence of the CEO

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Work with the CEO to develop an annual budget for the organization.
  • Process accounts payable and prepare checks for authorized signature.
  • Process and prepare billing on a monthly basis in accordance with the schedule set forth.
  • Process payroll and administer employee benefits in coordination with payroll service and other providers.
  • Approve/deny expenditures by staff in absence of CEO.
  • Maintain and reconcile all accounts related to organization entities.
  • Supervise and manage outside contractors for reporting on outside contracts and grants, including Southeastern Massachusetts Convention and Visitors Bureau (SMCVB), One SouthCoast Chamber Foundation and affiliates.
  • Administer benefits programs – health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, 401K, and paid time off, ensuring timely funding of such.
  • Work with events personnel to set up fee schedules for events in database.
  • Manage financial aspects of Chamber programs, events, and sponsorships, including invoicing, collections, and event financial reporting.
  • Performs monthly general ledger entries and month end closing processes
  • Prepares financial reports on a monthly basis
  • Prepares necessary documentation and reports for annual audit/review and confers with auditors as needed in coordination with the CEO
  • Manages organization’s ongoing cash flow in coordination with the CEO
  • Ensures financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP
  • Works with CEO and manages financial software, ChamberMaster and the Chamber’s IT Vendor.
  • Performs other duties, as required by the company or delegated by the supervisor.
  • Actively looks for improvements in company systems, processes, and practices.
  • Performs related administrative work as required.

 

Qualifications, Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Characteristics

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered as a degree substitute.
  • Facility with QuickBooks, database programs, online benefits portals
  • Facility with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word
  • Confidentiality, honesty, integrity, accuracy, attention to detail
  • Four years in comparable role required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and ability to update and maintain financial processes according to such principles and the needs of the organization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proven analytical thinking skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple detail-oriented projects simultaneously
  • Sufficient mathematical and technical proficiency to support the duties of this role.
  • Knowledge of general office practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict management
  • Ability to address situations as they arise and respond intuitively with accuracy and integrity
  • Ability to present an overall professional image
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a friendly and efficient manner with customers, vendors, employees, and other company contacts
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic initiatives and operational improvements.

 

Compensation

 

  • Salary range is $60,000 to $65,000. Commensurate with Experience
  • Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401K with matching employer contributions and paid time off.

 

Work Location and Conditions

 

  • In Person. One SouthCoast Chamber has two offices. One in Fall River and one in New Bedford. Regular business hours with the exception of events and programs that require occasional early morning, evening or weekend events

 

 

 

Physical requirements

 

  • None beyond those regularly associated with office work including transportation to and from home, office, events, etc.
