The City of Portland’s Housing and Economic Development Department

 

The department is seeking a candidate with experience in local maritime management, fisheries, or planning to join the team as a Waterfront Coordinator. This role is responsible for organizing, facilitating, and promoting economic development within Portland’s waterfront. Daily responsibilities include management and marketing of City waterfront properties, outreach with private waterfront businesses and non-profits, technical writing, press contact and public relations, and grants and project management on a wide range of waterfront issues and projects. The position advises and provides staff support to the Portland Fish Pier Authority Board of Directors, including the Fish Exchange and Finance Subcommittees, and represents the Economic Development Department and City administration, as directed, on various boards and committees related to waterfront and maritime activity.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Management and marketing of City waterfront properties

• Outreach with private waterfront businesses, pier owners, and non-profits

• Act as liaison with City, State, and Federal agencies

• Technical writing

• Promoting legacy and burgeoning maritime industries in the City

• Real estate transaction support

• Infrastructure planning, dredge planning, and climate change planning

• Press contact and public relations

• Grants management and project management on a wide range of waterfront issues and projects

 

Required Skills and Experience:

 

• Bachelor's degree in Policy, Planning, Maritime Management, and/or Fisheries with at least five (5) years of relevant experience required. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be accepted. Masters Degree in a relevant field preferred.

• Ability to establish and maintain exceptionally effective working relationships with waterfront tenants and property owners, as well as representatives of other agencies and the public

• Ability to carry out the City's policies tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing

• Ability to carry out effective public relations actions, including communications, presentations, public process design and implementation, and conflict management

• Knowledge of real estate development processes

• Knowledge of marine infrastructure and development, including physical planning

• Familiarity with maritime industries, marine operations, and security

• Knowledge of environmental permitting in a marine environment

• Experience with marketing, technical writing, grant application/management, and GIS systems

Salary & Benefits:

 

This is a non-union, 37.5 hour a week position, DBM C42, with an annual salary range of $72,830 - $77,238 annually.
