Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Athletic Director

Job Summary:  

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Health and Physical Education Teacher to join our dedicated faculty at HCS. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing engaging and developmentally appropriate health and physical education instruction to elementary and middle/high school students. The role involves fostering a positive and inclusive environment, promoting physical fitness, and instilling a lifelong appreciation for health and well-being. 

Qualifications & Desired Attributes: 

  • Professes a strong Christian faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrates regular attendance at a Bible-believing church aligned with the CSAGH Statement of Faith.
  • Agrees with and upholds the principles outlined in Articles II, III, and XII, section 1 of the Constitution of the Christian School Association of Greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
  • Exhibits a clear commitment to Christian Education and a wholehearted embrace of CSAGH's vision.
  • Self-motivated, dynamic, well-organized, and adaptable individual with a genuine desire to connect with, nurture, and minister to students and athletes.
  • Proficient in educational best practices and effective teaching methods, with the ability to engage and build trust and rapport with the learners.
  • Cultivates healthy and positive relationships with athletes, parents, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and training as required.

Health and PE Teacher Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, develop, and implement age-appropriate health and physical education curriculum for elementary and middle/high school students.
  • Create and execute engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and educational goals.
  • Instruct students on various physical activities, sports, and fitness exercises to enhance motor skills and overall physical well-being.
  • Assess and evaluate students' physical abilities, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
  • Incorporate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate physical education and health into interdisciplinary units.
  • Organize and oversee extracurricular activities, such as sports clubs, intramural sports, or fitness programs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about current trends and best practices in physical education.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators regarding students' progress and program initiatives.
  • Ensure the safety of students during physical education activities and implement emergency procedures as needed.

Assistant Athletic Director Key Responsibilities:
1. Administrative Support:

  • Assist in the athletic department's day-to-day operations, including scheduling, facilities management, and equipment coordination.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to develop and implement departmental policies.

 
2. Event Coordination:

  • Coordinate logistics for middle and high school athletic events, ensuring smooth execution.
  • Work with coaches to schedule team practices, games, and transportation.

 
3. Student-Athlete Support:

  • Provide guidance and support to student-athletes, promoting academic success and personal development.
  • Assist in organizing academic support services for student-athletes.

 
4. Coaching Assistance:

  • Collaborate with coaches on practice planning, skill development, and team dynamics.
  • Support coaches in implementing effective coaching strategies.

 
5. Recruitment and Development:

  • Assist in the recruitment of student-athletes, working to attract and retain talent.
  • Facilitate programs to develop leadership and sportsmanship skills among student-athletes.

 
6. Compliance and Reporting:

  • Stay informed about and ensure compliance with applicable athletic association rules and regulations.
  • Assist in preparing reports related to compliance and program performance.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field.
  • State teaching certification or licensure in Health and Physical Education preferably.
  • Prior teaching experience at the elementary and/or middle/high school level.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, motor skills, and physical fitness.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting healthy lifestyles and wellness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Familiarity with incorporating technology into health and physical education instruction.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to stand, sit, move around the classroom for extended periods, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Lifting, bending, and carrying classroom materials and supplies.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as a copy machine.
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written, and listen regularly.
