TechWorks Lab Coordinator
Position Summary:
Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA) has developed a state-of-the-art, technology-focused STEM program designed to inspire the next generation of innovators. At the heart of this initiative is TechWorks, an exploration and discovery lab located at the Waterfront Family Service Center in Pittsburgh. The lab offers hands-on and remote learning opportunities for K–12 students, featuring cutting-edge tools in robotics, drones, coding, cybersecurity, and manufacturing. Through a robust network of business partnerships and community outreach, TechWorks enhances student learning with real-world skills, project-based experiences, and internship opportunities.
CCA is seeking a dynamic and innovative TechWorks Lab Coordinator to deliver authentic, interdisciplinary, STEM learning experiences. The ideal candidate will bring experience in progressive, project-based education and a commitment to engaging diverse learners in rigorous, hands-on exploration. A strong understanding of how to integrate STEM into a dynamic K–12 learning environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. STEM Learning & Student Engagement
- Design and facilitate hands-on, project-based learning experiences for K–12 students.
- Guide students in creating and managing their own learning projects.•
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate TechWorks activities into classroom instruction.
- Support remote learning opportunities and virtual student engagement.
2. Program Development & Innovation
- Co-develop of strategic pipeline of STEM programming aligned with workforce development goals.
- Actively contribute to the growth and evolution of the TechWorks lab and its offerings.
- Serve as a voice for educational technology and innovation within the school and broader community.
3. Lab Operations & Safety
- Maintain a well-organized, safe, and fully stocked lab environment.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and maintenance guidelines.
- Implement systems for tracking lab materials and equipment usage.
- Foster a culture of respect and responsibility for lab resources.
4. Community Engagement & Communication
- Provide guided tours and demonstrations for guests, partners, and stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, educators, and community members about TechWorks initiatives.
- Document and present student learning and lab activities to internal and external audiences.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in a STEM-related field.
- Valid PA Driver’s License and appropriate automobile insurance.
- Clear background checks as required by the state.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree and prior teaching experience.
- Experience teaching integrated STEM content across K–12 grade levels.
- Industry-recognized technology certifications (or willingness to obtain them).

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Indoor lab setting with hands-on equipment, including robotics, drones, and manufacturing tools.
- Physical activity required: lifting, bending, standing for extended periods.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
