Registered Veterinary Technician

Green Meadow Veterinary Hospital in semi-rural Marietta, Ohio is currently looking for Registered Veterinary Technicians. Not just any RVTs, but those that want to bring their skills, talents and passions to a team of concurring individuals. RVTs who want to be part of a positive change, and can keep a positive outlook when dealing with sick animals, emotional clients, and the general commotion of a busy animal hospital. 

Duties:

·        Assessing and recording vitals, follow a treatment plan to provide care for hospitalized patients,

·        Assists the doctor in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepare and anesthetize patients for surgery; assists doctors in calculating doses, drug, and fluid administration.

·        Monitors patients during surgery and recovery.

·        Gives injections and administers oral medications in accordance with hospital policy.

·        Performs emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways, and CPR.

·        Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records.

·        Takes radiographs/administers EKGs.

·        Performs euthanasias.

·        Cleaning and bandaging wounds, applying casts.

·        Admits and discharges patients on the doctor's orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state.

·        Instructs clients on various aspects of animal care; explains dosage/purpose of medications; reinforces the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home; makes follow-up calls to clients.

·        Follows all controlled substance regulations and maintains Controlled Substance inventory in conjunction with the practice manager and Cubex system.

·        Understands usage and dosage for all prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients.

·        Consults with doctors regarding client concerns, questions, laboratory results, follow-up appointments, and diagnostics. 

·        Assists properly cleaning all surgical materials after they are used; keeps the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.

Requirements: 

·        Must be a Registered Veterinary Technician with current licensure in the State of Ohio, and West Virginia if applicable.

·        Experience preferred but not needed (dental experience or certification a major plus.) 

·        Calmness, composure, and an extraordinary commitment to customer service and                  compassion.

·        Able to lift 40 lbs.
