Operations Manager – Residential Screen Business

Location: Austin, TX

In Person

Start Date: September 2025

Compensation:

  • Base Salary: $65,000
  • Performance & Phantom Equity Bonus: Up to $50,000 annually (based on growth & profitability)
  • Additional fringe benefits: Company car, housing, health care, retirement, work phone
  • Long-term leadership or equity opportunities for top performers

Overview & Background:
We’re acquiring an established but under-optimized screen business in the Austin area as a tuck-in acquisition to our existing exterior remodeling company, JP Exteriors. With the right operator in place, this business has the potential to realize significant synergies across customer acquisition, operations, and workforce.

We’re seeking a driven, disciplined, and entrepreneurial individual to lead this business day-to-day. You’ll be responsible for modernizing operations, building systems, growing the customer base, and managing the team.

This is not a cushy office job—this role is for someone who wants full operational ownership of a business without the financial risk of buying one. If you have a military background or a proven track record in leadership, process improvement, or small business management, this is the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

Two-Year Commitment (2026–2027):

  • Onboarding Phase: September–December 2025
  • Work side-by-side with the current owners and supporting team
  • Learn the business, meet key vendors and subs, and start building foundational systems
  • Full Operational Leadership: January 2026–December 2027
  • You own the business outcomes. We step back. You step forward.
  • This is your team to lead, grow, and scale with systems, culture, and discipline.

At the end of 2027, we’ll evaluate together: continue in a leadership role, transition into your own acquisition (with our support), or help onboard your replacement and move on.

Key Responsibilities:

Year 1 (Onboarding & Foundation – Q4 2025):

  • Learn current operations
  • Begin SOP creation and systems implementation
  • Build trust with subcontractors, vendors, and internal team

Year 2 & 3 (2026–2027 Full Ownership):

  • Digitize business processes (CRM, scheduling, accounting, inventory)
  • Standardize workflows and lead measurable performance improvements
  • Recruit and manage field labor and installers
  • Grow the business through reputation management, internal efficiencies, and strategic upsells
  • Analyze P&L, track KPIs, and meet monthly with ownership for reviews
  • Coordinate synergies with our existing remodeling business

Who This Role is For:

  • Former military, or leadership roles in operational environments
  • College degree preferred (but not required with proven experience)
  • Prior experience in small business, field operations, or home services strongly preferred
  • Builder mindset: eager to solve problems, own decisions, and take action without hand-holding
  • Tech-savvy and process-oriented—comfortable leading digital transformation

Why This Role is Different:

  • Low-risk pathway to high responsibility: Run a business without the capital burden
  • Support from experienced operators with a proven track record in construction and acquisition

Future flexibility:

  1. Stay on long-term in a leadership role
  2. Pursue ETA (entrepreneurship through acquisition) - we may co-invest
  3. Move into leadership with another business we acquire
  4. Exit after 2027 with our support onboarding your replacement

Reporting & Support:

You’ll report directly to the primary business owner and receive hands-on support through the end of 2025. Starting in 2026, you’ll be expected to run day-to-day operations independently, with weekly performance check-ins.
