Paid Internship for Pre-Health Graduates

Moon River Senior Care, offers a unique paid internship for Pre-Health college graduates who are in the gap year before Medical School or a Physician Assistant Program.  Our licensed home care agency is located in Northern Virginia and offers an internship that includes patient care experience and educational sessions with healthcare professionals.  This internship requires being a Nurse Aide (Certified preferred, but not required). We prefer that the training was in Virginia, but will provide a competency testing opportunity if the credential was earned in another state. 

The internship description:  

Employment as a paid intern providing assistance with activities of daily living to older adults served by Moon River Senior Care. Our licensed home care agency is located in Ashburn, VA.  Clients/Patients are in this geographic area. 

Join the educational sessions (10-12 per year) on ZOOM  that involve learning from healthcare experts and networking with other interns.  

Lead a presentation on a healthcare topic that you are passionate about it. 

Upon completion of your internship, submit a 5-7 page reflection paper about the                    experience. 

Request a letter of recommendation for Medical School or a Physician Assistant Program.  I personally have written more than 150 letters of recommendation for graduates of  internship programs. It is rewarding to see our interns get accepted to prestigious schools and advance in their careers. 

Requirements:

Applicants for the paid internship program are required to work 6-12 months or complete a minimum of 1,000 hours with Moon River Senior Care, a licensed home care agency.  Past interns have gained 1000- 3,000 hours of patient care experience! 

While taking the state exam to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) is not required for this internship that involves working in home care, it is encouraged. Being a CNA opens the door to thousands of jobs in hospitals, assisted living, memory care, nursing homes, home health and Hospice. 

Compensation:

Interns start at $19.00/hr. if a Nurse Aide and $19.50/hr.  if a CNA.  After 500 hours working as an aide with our agency and completing the other internship requirements,  the pay increases to $20.00/hr.
