Bilingual Communications Coordinator

Position Title: Communications Coordinator

Reports to: Senior Manager of Communications

Job Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt

Summary

The Communications Coordinator advances the SLO Food Bank’s mission by writing, designing, and distributing compelling, culturally relevant, and bilingual (Spanish and English) communications that increase access to food, raise awareness, and support fundraising to sustain and grow our programs. This position is responsible for writing, designing, and disseminating materials that inform, inspire, and engage neighbors, donors, volunteers, and the broader community. The Coordinator will use their storytelling, graphic design, and digital marketing skills to support initiatives that foster trust, expand access, and drive support for our mission to alleviate hunger in SLO County. The role includes on and off-site work collecting content, assisting at the SLO Food Bank’s pantry, as needed, and collaborating across departments.

Essential Functions | Core Duties & Responsibilities

Communications

  • Design high-quality bilingual marketing and outreach materials, including flyers, brochures, posters, one-pagers, newsletters, social media posts, email campaigns, and website content.
  • Write, translate, and edit clear, compelling copy in English and Spanish.
  • Maintain brand consistency and messaging across all digital and print materials.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop storytelling content that highlights community impact, client experiences, and donor engagement.
  • Manage and update website content.
  • Create and schedule bilingual content for email and social media campaigns.
  • Photograph and video SLO Food Bank activities, neighbors, and partners at distribution and agency sites, ensuring proper permissions and privacy practices.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data to report on the reach and impact of communication materials and campaigns.
  • Assist with video editing for social and digital storytelling.
  • Support grant and fundraising efforts with compelling visuals, stories, and impact data.

Other Functions | Collaboration & Outreach

  • Assist the Outreach team to serve neighbors in the SLO Food Bank’s on-site pantry and with distributing information to neighbors at food distributions, as needed.
  • Work closely with teams across Development, Volunteer & Admin, Nutrition, Food Sourcing, Operations, and Outreach to develop unified messaging and support cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Attend and represent the SLO Food Bank at community events, outreach activities, and community meetings.

Qualifications

Required

  • Passion for the SLO Food Bank mission and a strong desire to compassionately serve community members.
  • Advanced proficiency in bilingual (Spanish and English) speaking and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in graphic design, copywriting, and translation.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills; the ability to work independently and set priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working with volunteers and people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong cultural competence and ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Data-driven mindset with ability to track and report on communication impact.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possesses a valid Driver’s License, clean driving record, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Canva, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp, Constant Contact) and WordPress.
  • Proficiency in photography and basic video production/editing.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree.

Salary Range:

$21.00-24.00 per hour depending on qualifications, plus benefits

Work Conditions and Physical Demands

Work conditions and physical demands may include:

  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time; the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer); to occasionally lift, carry, and load up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and crouch repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Standing, walking and kneeling required.
  • Must be capable of spending extended periods of time entering data into a database, with the potential for frequent interruptions.
  • Variable work environment: work is regularly conducted both indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions in various locations. Indoor facilities kept at cold temperature, so warm clothing is required. Noise level varies from quiet office environment to very noisy warehouse. Exhaust and dust may be present in the warehouse receiving area.
