Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and creative Sustainability Communications & Social Media Marketing Specialist to lead our digital storytelling, content strategy, and media presence. This role blends strategic communications and marketing with a deep understanding of sustainability, climate advocacy, and ESG. You will shape CIR’s narrative, grow our online community, amplify our environmental impact, and drive awareness of our mission to build a cleaner, equitable energy future.

Core Responsibilities

Social Media & Digital Marketing

  • Design and implement a sustainability-driven social media strategy.
  • Create and publish engaging content (posts, videos, infographics, stories) across platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, and Threads.
  • Monitor trends, hashtags, and digital moments in climate and clean energy to keep CIR’s voice timely and relevant.
  • Track content performance and optimize strategies for engagement, reach, and conversions.
  • Manage content calendars and social media tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite).

Strategic Communications

  • Craft compelling narratives and messaging around CIR’s sustainability strategy, partnerships, achievements, and advocacy.
  • Develop press releases, blog posts, newsletters, whitepapers, ESG reports, and executive communications.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (sustainability, ESG, leadership, product) to align messaging across stakeholders.
  • Build communication strategies for new initiatives, reports, certifications, and events.
  • Manage relationships with media outlets, PR firms, and sustainability influencers to raise brand visibility.

Content & Brand Voice

  • Ensure consistent and impactful voice across all communication channels.
  • Translate complex technical and environmental topics into clear, relatable, and inspiring stories.
  • Support employee engagement efforts through internal campaigns and content.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field is required.
  • A master’s degree or relevant certification in Sustainability Communication, Environmental Policy, or Digital Marketing is a plus.

Technical Skills and Experience

Technical & Marketing Tools

  • Proficient with Canva, Adobe Suite, CapCut, or similar design/video tools.
  • Skilled in social media analytics and scheduling tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite).
  • Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks like GHG Protocol, SDGs, or ESG metrics a plus.

Communication & Strategy

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking and project management ability to handle complex campaigns.
  • Able to synthesize technical content into accessible, engaging formats.

Interpersonal & Soft Skills

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ideas from concept to execution.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or sustainability-related roles.
  • Prior experience in the clean tech, ESG, non-profit, or renewable energy sectors is preferred.

Psychosocial Skills /Human Skills/Behavioural Skills

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Project Management experience a plus. 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ideas and run with them from concept to conclusion.
  • Technical understanding of clean energy business processes
  • Exceptional verbal and writing communication skills with superiors, peers, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Excellence in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • The candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
