Veterinary Lab Assistant

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Lab Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal care and welfare, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This role involves assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care for cats and dogs. The assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of our patients.

Duties

• Assist veterinary nurses to assess patients during examinations.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and effectively for examinations and treatments.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including exam rooms, laboratory, and surgical areas.
• Perform basic laboratory tests and assist with diagnostic imaging (X-ray and ultrasound).
• Prepare samples for shipment to outside reference labs.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and provide care throughout the day.
• Maintain accurate medical records, including lab results and handling notes.
• Clean and sanitize exam rooms thoroughly in between appointments, implementing the appropriate sanitization techniques to prevent contagious pathogens.
• Assist in kennel duties, including cleaning, feeding, and exercising animals.
• Perform opening duties in the morning to prepare for daily operations and closing duties at the end of the day to properly shut down the hospital.
• Utilize Zoom to communicate remotely with offsite team members as needed.

Experience
Candidates will be trained to perform the various skills of the job. Candidates showing experience in the following will be preferred:

• Experience working with pets (family, neighbor)
• Professional experience working with pets (boarding facility, groomer)
• Volunteer experience working with pets (humane society, rescue)
• Experience working in a hospital or laboratory setting
• Career aspirations in the veterinary field
• Currently in school for veterinary-related education (if in school, we can arrange a part time schedule)

Workplace
Candidates will be expected to wear scrubs, act professionally, and contribute to positive workplace culture. We are a brand new animal hospital with a fairly small team. We have two sister hospitals we often collaborate with for patient care. Must be available to work every other Saturday for a half day.
