
Chemist Intern
Summary: The Chemist Intern will assist in researching chemical formulations and work closely with the Lead Chemist on various projects. The intern will also handle materials safely, adhere to safety procedures, and suggest process improvements. This role is ideal for those preparing for post-graduation careers, offering hands-on experience with advanced techniques and equipment.
Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.
- Assist in researching chemical formulations in a laboratory and work in tandem with Lead Chemist on multiple projects.
- Use basic lab equipment: viscometer, pH meter, balances, etc.
- Test various materials – such as weighing, mixing, and preparing batches for formula development or reformulation projects – and otherwise prepare for jobs post-graduation (If applicable).
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative tests on chemical substances (e.g., pH, viscosity, specific gravity, appearance) on incoming raw materials and finished goods to ensure quality control.
- Perform stability testing by preparing and monitoring samples under various storage conditions.
- Help with product performance testing, like cleaning efficiency, foaming, corrosion inhibition, or viscosity checks.
- Document experimental procedures and observations in lab notebooks or digital logs.
- Help product specifications, and batch records under supervision.
- Support Lead Chemist in compiling data for regulatory submissions or customer product documentation.
- Organize Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and other testing paperwork.
- Conduct inventory counts of lab materials, glassware, and consumables.
- Ensure proper labeling and storage of chemicals and samples.
- Maintain a clean work area ensuring safety as a priority.
- Adhere to all safety procedures.
- Review all product specifications and follow precisely.
- Dress in proper PPE attire and use PPE equipment provided.
- Handle materials using proper equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Report all Equipment issues to Supervisor.
- Edits and accurately records changes in the level of product left on appropriate labels.
- Learn and retain unique specifications of equipment and formulations.
- Person must be able to problem-solve under fast paced conditions.
- Candidate may suggest thoughts and ideas for improvements to their process or Plesh (SOP).
- Stay current with changing technology, including software and position-specific programs.
- Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Chemist Intern has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education/Experience:
- Must be a current student working towards A.S., B.A or B.S in Chemistry, Biology or related Science Degree.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in the English language.
- Ability to write simple reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to managers and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and unstandardized situations.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Computer Skills:
- Ability to use/navigate the Internet and email. Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite.
