Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is now accepting applications for a Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) Coach - Literacy & Mathematics position for the 2025-2026 school year.
Primary Responsibilities:
The SDI Coach will provide targeted support to special education teachers and school-based teams in the planning and implementation of specially designed instruction (SDI) in both literacy and mathematics. This position plays a critical role in improving outcomes for students with disabilities by building teacher capacity in instructional design and delivery aligned with IEP goals. The SDI Coach will collaborate with educators to ensure the use of evidence-based practices that support student access to and progress in the general education curriculum.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Virginia teaching license with endorsement in Special Education (K-8 or K-12)
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in special education
- Strong knowledge of literacy, mathematics instructional strategies, and high-leverage practices for students with disabilities
- Experience developing and implementing SDI aligned to IEP’s
- Proficiency in analyzing academic data and applying it to instructional decision-making
- Experience providing professional development or coaching preferred
- Master’s degree in special education, curriculum and instruction, or a related field preferred
- Have strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with parents and families
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with special education teachers to design and implement individualized SDI in literacy and mathematics
- Coach teachers on the use of explicit, systematic instruction and scaffolding in both content areas
- Model effective instructional strategies and co-teach lessons to support skill development in reading, writing, and math
- Assist teachers in using diagnostic and progress monitoring data to guide instructional decisions
- Support the alignment of SDI to IEP goals, present levels of performance, and the general education curriculum
- Guide teams in the selection and use of research-based materials, including structured literacy and evidence-based math interventions
- Provide professional learning opportunities in SDI, including how to deliver instruction that is intensive, data-driven, and individualized
- Promote effective collaboration between special and general education teachers to support inclusive practices
- Participate in IEP meetings to support meaningful goal development and instructional planning
- Serve as a resource for instructional technology tools that support access to content in literacy and math
- Support the induction and mentoring of new special educators in designing and delivering effective SDI
- Collaborate with school and division leadership to support district-wide priorities related to SDI in literacy and mathematics
FLSA Status: Exempt
SALARY: $55,473.97 - $89,545.14 annually; with benefits; commensurate with experience
