GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
The Title IX Investigator, under the direction of the Assistant School Division Counsel and Title IX Coordinator and/or School Board Attorney, is responsible for investigating complaints under Title IX for Albemarle County Public School (ACPS). This position works independently, conducting investigative research, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and other actions to ensure a thorough investigative process. The Title IX Investigator drafts and submits reports meeting regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans, conducts, and documents investigations concerning complaints of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and protected class discrimination and harassment involving students, employees, and third parties;
- Writes clear, detailed, unbiased reports regarding the findings of investigations;
- Acts as an impartial party in conducting and documenting prompt, thorough, and sensitive investigations;
- Schedules and conducts interviews, coordinating with parties, witnesses, parents and guardians, school administrators, interpreters, and parties’ advisors and attorneys as may be required;
- Keeps thorough, accurate, comprehensive records related to all assigned investigations;
- Maintains confidentiality during all proceedings as required and possible;
- Attends Title IX-related training as required;
- Assists Assistant School Division Counsel and Title IX Coordinator with other aspects of Title IX compliance as needed;
- Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of Title IX regulations and related ACPS policies and procedures. Solid organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Must have excellent writing abilities and be proficient with technology. Skilled in conducting investigations and documentation. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks; organize and manage time effectively; communicate effectively both orally and in writing and possess the ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information. Ability to diplomatically manage individual, group, and organizational interactions, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, teachers, support staff, and associates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited undergraduate program and a minimum of 3 years of experience in education, human resources, law or law enforcement, compliance, and/or related fields. Any appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:
Work will be split between (1) administrative work performed in a central office setting, and (2) interviews and other meetings held at ACPS schools, or other locations as necessary. Regular communication and coordination with students, employees, parents and guardians, interpreters, attorneys and advisors, principals, teachers, and other school staff is required. This work requires the ability to build trust, calm and tactful communication with a wide-ranging demographic, and the ability to sensitively, but effectively, discuss emotional topics. Driving between school locations within Albemarle County is required. Reimbursement or access to an ACPS vehicle will be provided for this purpose.

Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibility.
