Editorial Assistant

U.S. Catholic is seeking a full-time editorial assistant. This is a hybrid role that requires working in our downtown Chicago office 2 days per week and remotely 3 days per week. The editorial assistant is a vital part of the editorial team for U.S. Catholic and provides editorial and administrative support, including the following:

Print Magazine Production
- Fact check features, copy edit page proofs, and proofread corrections
- Contribute to print departments, including letters to the editor, art reflections, and others
- Assist with writing copy, including headlines and deks, with the capacity to expand into writing print and web articles as needed
- Work collaboratively with other editors to ensure adherence to monthly production schedule

Administrative Support
- Process invoices, run financial reports, and liaison with accounting department
- Collaborate with other departments on editorial and marketing projects, including marketing/ad sales, the broader communications team, and development
- Communicate with outside vendors to obtain review copies of books, obtain image permissions, and schedule interviews
- Schedule meetings, go through mail, read through unsolicited submissions and evaluate for acceptance, and provide general office support

Digital Media Support
- Assist with posting articles to website, executing email campaigns, and social media posting
- Update archival articles to conform to SEO best practices
- Upload and post video and/or audio files as needed

The ideal candidate must be creative, energetic, able to meet tight deadlines, and extremely detail oriented. To be successful in this position the candidate must be a clear communicator and able to manage multiple tasks at a time.

Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, communications, journalism, or equivalent experience.
· Knowledge of the Catholic faith and experience working in journalism and/or publishing are preferred.
· 1–2 years of copyediting experience
· 1–2 years fact checking experience and experience with house style guides
· Experience with desktop software (Adobe Creative Suite) and web production tools (WordPress) preferred
· Comfortable using social media
· Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills required
· Experience editing video or audio preferred. Desire to develop these skills required.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
