Social Media Intern - The Philadelphia Citizen
The Philadelphia Citizen is looking for a social media intern for the Fall 2025 semester. We are a Philly-based civic-minded media nonprofit, combining solutions-based journalism with thought leader events to revive democracy and citizenship in the American city where it was born. This is a paid internship opportunity and will require 10-15 hours of dedicated time per week in a hybrid working environment.
Responsibilities:
- Schedule posts for social media.
- Assist in content creation (TikTok/Instagram/Infographs).
- Administrative duties, including research into other social media channels.
- Attend events and capture content alongside Social Media Manager (1-2 a month).
- Pitch content for social media in monthly marketing meetings and execute ideas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- You are either a rising junior/rising senior, a current junior/senior, or you are in a master's program; best suited for majors in journalism, marketing, or other relevant field
- You have experience with content creation, including TikTok/Instagram Reels. Video editing skills are preferred but not required (you’ll be trained!).
- You are a gifted writer with strong research skills.
- You are comfortable being on camera.
- You’re great at collaboration but can work independently as well.
- Deep interest in urban innovation and community building for social good; and passionate about making Philadelphia a better place to live for all its residents
What you’ll get out of it:
Social media is the modern-day distribution of the news. You’ll gain a strong understanding of how social media operates in the journalism world through hands-on experience with a wide range of platforms. You’ll work alongside a close-knit team of award-winning journalists and marketing pros, and have the ability to engage with changemakers and thought leaders both locally and nationally. Get insight into using news judgment to market editorial content that drives audience to ignite civic action. You’ll leave with a portfolio of content and training in multiple applications. Plus, exercise your own creative voice with the ability to pitch your own stories and content ideas.
Monthly stipend: $300
