Associate Engineer
As an Associate Engineer in the railcar leasing industry, you will play a key role in managing and optimizing the maintenance of our railcars. Maintenance of the railcars will include repairs, cost studies, optimizations, reliability studies and helping define required intervals for inspection. You will be responsible for assisting with managing a diverse portfolio of almost 20,000 rail car assets, ensuring efficient utilization, maximizing returns, and mitigating risks
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Oversight:
- Assist in managing all repairs and reassignments of railcars, including tracking maintenance costs, maintenance schedules, regulatory requirements and lease agreements.
- Monitor AAR regulations and participate in on going industry groups to change and improve regulations. Support sales and marketing efforts for all existing and new purchases of railcars.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize portfolio performance, including lease renewals, repositioning, and asset disposition.
- On site inspection and coordinate with railcar repair shops across North America.
- Travel will be as needed but could be a few times per month at times.
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct financial analysis on maintenance costs on railcar leases and individual railcars.
- Prepare regular cost reports and performance summaries for senior management and stakeholders.
- Prepare project plans for reassignment of railcars transitioning from one lease to another.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess potential risks associated with specific car types, such as risk of failures in service, maintenance costs, and market volatility.
- Implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Client Relations:
- Collaborate with clients, lessees, and other stakeholders to address their needs and concerns.
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide exceptional customer service.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales and marketing, finance, and legal, to execute car purchases, car reassignments, car repairs, warranty issues, and any regulatory questions that arise.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Aero, Chemical or a related field. MS or MBA is a plus). An Engineering Technology degree will not be acceptable.
- Strong design and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and make data-driven decisions.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools, such as Excel, financial modeling software, and lease management systems.
