Quantity Estimator

Louisiana Bridge Builders (“LBB”) is designing and building the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles, Louisiana (USA) for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). LBB will also be responsible for the reconstruction of interstate highway, various structures, ramps, and approaches for a 5.5 mile stretch between I-210 West End and Ryan Street.

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY 

The Quantity Estimator is committed to supporting Louisiana Bridge Builders by working closely with clients, contractors, architects, and engineers to ensure the effective cost management of projects from the initial design stage through to completion. This role involves the preparation of accurate quantities’ estimates, managing project forecasts, conducting risk assessments, quantities’ monthly completion assessment and register, quantities deviation tracking and justification monthly report and ensuring the project is completed within budget and time constraints. 

LOCATION 

This position is based in Lake Charles, LA.  

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Coordinates the quantity takeoff for the project.
  2. Measurement of several elements and disciplines of the project, directly from the designers’ documents or following existing standard or from provided assumption.
  3. Coordination with internal design teams and engineering activities to meet the company’s technical objectives related to design and construction.
  4. Supports the team to deliver a successful project on time, on budget, within company requirements and client obligations from a technical point of view in safety, health, environment, and quality.
  5. Supports the Technical Office Manager in administering the designers’ contract regarding its submittals and its quality, detail and accuracy to allow a correct interpretation and extraction of measurements.
  6. Analysis and reporting information supported with technical documentation to be distributed, internally and externally, to third parties working on the project to ensure that the work complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, design instructions.
  7. Gives takeoff support to the construction activities.
  8. Responsible for the quantity takeoff tracking and deviations of the project.
  9. Coordinates with Client and other third parties to resolve high-level technical issues to obtain final approval of the executed works.
  10. Identifies, manages, and assists in the preparation of proposals for design alternatives that are beneficial for the project.
  11. Tracks all quantity takeoffs for the project through his team.
  12. Provides contractual support from a technical point of view to other project contracts: contracting support, technical interface with specialized subcontractors, technical disputes, etc.
  13. Identifies technical risks and participates in the preparation of risk reports.
  14. Participates in the review of the Project budget forecasts, providing the necessary technical part for its realization.
  15. Support in the execution stage (project assistance team to resolve nonconformities, RFI with designers and unexpected events during construction).
  16. Advises/participates in the formalization of contracts with engineering companies.
  17. Guarantees the correct transmission of design information to the entire project team.
  18. Collaborates on the technical claims of the project.
  19. Performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  2. Ability to use appropriate computer programs (including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite) which includes having proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.

QUALIFICATIONS 

At a minimum, the Quantity Estimator (2D drawings and 3D models measurement) must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Quantity Estimator or Survey, or equivalent field of study, along with 7+ years related experience with a focus on roadworks and bridges, proven knowledge of MicroStation, CAD, PDF handling and interpretation, master level proficiency in Microsoft Excel including but not limited to macros and dynamic tables, and a current and valid driver’s license; OR a high school diploma, or equivalent, along with 11+ years related experience with a focus on roadworks and bridges, proven knowledge of MicroStation, CAD, PDF handling and interpretation, master level proficiency in Microsoft Excel including but not limited to macros and dynamic tables, and a current and valid driver’s license. Experience working on a Design Build Contract is preferred.
