Fitness Intern

The purpose of the Fitness Intern position is to assist with the operations and implementation of health/wellness and fitness programs, events and services provided at the Dublin Community Recreation Center (DCRC). Under the direction of the Fitness/Wellness Supervisor, the successful candidate will provide assistance in fitness/wellness programming, fitness orientations and program registration/office support. Duties will include developing, marketing and implementation of fitness/wellness programs, providing information/instruction to patrons and using computer applications in preparing reports and/or recommendations.  

Scheduling/Availability

  • Currently seeking applicants available to work during the 2025-2026 academic year
  • Hours will be dependent upon the successful candidate’s school schedule and Fitness Supervisor approval
  • Scheduling is flexible with an average of 15-25 hours per week
    • Interns may be permitted to work a full-time schedule during summer, winter and spring breaks subject to the approved budget
  • Weekly Fitness Intern schedule will include evening and weekend hours
  • Must be available to work in-person in Dublin, Ohio (no remote opportunities available)

Intern Pay Structure
Undergraduate Freshman: $15.00/hour
Undergraduate Sophomore: $15.50/hour
Undergraduate Junior: $16.00/hour
Undergraduate Senior: $16.50/hour
First Year Graduate Student: $17.50/hour
Second Year Graduate Student: $19.00/hour

Examples of duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Is knowledgeable, understands and follows all rules, policies and procedures of the facility, including fitness and front desk areas.
  • Assist with special event programming, implementation and evaluation of programs.
  • Develop and/or implement at least one special program or event.
  • Perform fitness orientations, fitness assessments and Jr. Fit orientations as scheduled.
  • Assist the fitness staff with general day-to-day duties and operation of the fitness floor.
  • Attend all scheduled office hours and required meetings.
  • Monitor group fitness attendance numbers on a weekly basis.
  • Develop and coordinate participant surveys as requested.
  • Assist with staff training and scheduling.
  • Contribute to the marketing of all fitness and wellness programs and services through website promotions, newsletters, bulletin boards, etc.
  • Shadow 3-5 group fitness instructors and/or small group instructors and summarize their teaching styles and differences.
  • Shadow and participate in a class format/small group of choice and later teach a portion of the class under supervision of the Group Fitness Specialist and class instructor.
  • Other responsibilities as agreed upon by the Fitness staff.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree seeking program
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Health Promotion, Sports Management, or a related field
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Interest and strong basic knowledge of anatomy and health and fitness concepts, as well as experience with a variety of fitness equipment
  • Must possess excellent communication and customer service abilities along with strong dependability and reliability
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter and creative thinker

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching group fitness classes
