
Accounting Specialist
Job Summary:
The City of St. Peters is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our Finance Department. Under general supervision, this position performs advanced accounting and clerical work, including monthly financial closing, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliation. This role plays a key part in supporting internal teams and external auditors and requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Normal Shift: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday; Full-Time.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly closing of financial records, including general ledger analyses and reconciliations.
- Prepare journal entries to ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Reconcile bank statements and assist in reviewing interfaced data from financial systems.
- Coordinate and assign workflow tasks; provide on-the-job training to team members.
- Enter, verify, and retrieve data using automated financial systems.
- Assist with year-end closing and prepare schedules for independent audit.
- Prepare and distribute standard and special financial reports.
- Create invoices in accordance with agreements, ordinances, and City policy.
- Respond to inquiries regarding accounting procedures, forms, and policies.
- Draft and prepare professional correspondence and documentation.
- Comply with all established City safety procedures and standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully authorized alien worker.
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, and one (1) year of applicable experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be able to type 35 CWPM and operate a calculator at a rate of at least 89 CKPM.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and financial systems in a Windows environment.
