Chemical Technician

Perform chemical reactions to recover precious metals from various source materials (e-scrap, plating solution, jewelry, vapor deposition equipment, overspray etc.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform chemical reactions in a laboratory and/or warehouse setting.
  • Sample, recover and analyze materials for precious metal content
  • Mechanical filtration, dissolution, and recovery of precious metals using acids, bases or cyanide
  • Maintain and clean laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Safe handling of hazardous chemicals
  • Maintain detailed records of job information and batch information
  • Assist other technicians in wastewater treatment by using cyanide oxidation and acid neutralization
  • Assist with the development of new methods and technology for precious metal recovery
  • Observe chemical or physical operation processes and recommend improvements
  • Participate in designing, installing, and modifying equipment
  • Assess safety and environmental issues; Ensuring safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Review and update standard operating procedures
  • Help identify improvements in quality control
  • Assist in other areas of the Chemical Treatment Department as needed

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 years of experience handling chemicals
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team
  • Basic computer knowledge including MS programs
  • All levels of experience are considered

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work on one’s feet in a production environment
  • Able to lift up to 50 lb and move 55-gallon drums
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Working Hours: Morning shift (9:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
