ELKHART COUNTY GOVERNMENTAL POSITION VACANCY NOTICE

COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER-ENVIRONMENTAL

DEPARTMENT:                            Health Department-Environmental Health

HIRING RANGE:                    $32.02-$35.58/hour based on education and position related experience.     

                                               Longevity pay after 3 years.

POSITION TO BE FILLED:      ASAP 

HOURS & DAYS OF WORK: Monday 8-5, Tuesday-Friday 8-4; occasional evening and weekend hours

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for promoting environmental health and educating the public by supporting disease prevention and providing awareness of activities/behaviors that adversely affect the environment and public health while building relationships within the community in order to help develop capacity and access to environmental health resources, serving as a liaison between health and the community to facilitate access and improve health outcomes by increasing environmental health knowledge.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, environmental health, public health, physical science or related field 
• Must be a community health worker certified through a state approved agency or be willing to obtain a certification within 3 months of hire 
• Ability to write, edit, and produce creative content, including digital media (audio, video, podcasts); ability to compile, collate, analyze and evaluate data
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community 
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills strongly preferred
• Pre-employment background check required
