Signs and Markings Manager
Summary Objective
This position will be responsible and accountable for directing, managing, supervising, assigning, reviewing, and participating in the work of staff responsible for the repair and maintenance of all sign and street marking activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Oversees all operations of maintenance workers, manages budget, maintains communications, and ensures activities meet the needs of the departments.
- Ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
- Plans, prioritizes, and directs the work of staff responsible for the repair and maintenance of all sign and street marking activities including fabrication, installation, and maintenance of traffic signs and street markings.
- Assigns work orders, requests, and oversees crews performing various sign and grounds maintenance.
- Provides on-call services in the evenings and/or weekends to coordinate appropriate staff for emergency situations.
- Establishes schedules and methods for providing repair and maintenance of all sign and street marking activities. Identifying resource needs, reviews need with appropriate management staff, and allocates resources accordingly.
- Participates in the development of goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures. Participates in the implementation of approved policies and procedures. Monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Participates in the selection of signs and markings maintenance staff. Provides or coordinates staff training. Works with employees to correct deficiencies and implements discipline procedures.
- Provides and discusses specifications; finds, recommends, and implements methods to improve production or effectiveness.
- Inspects sign fabrication and installation activities; works with engineers and specialized workers on thermoplastic projects and technicalities; identifies areas to strengthen workflow and ensures all deadlines are met.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure conformance with established specifications, standards, and employee safety, including job safety audits.
- Prepares productivity reports and maintains records and files of sign repairs and maintenance work performed.
- Ensures adherence to safe work standards, enforces safety regulations, and ensures that work sites are set up according to established safety procedures.
- Oversees communications with MTS regarding mobile devices and software utilized by the Signs and Markings workforce.
- Maintains records concerning operations and programs and prepares reports on operations and activities.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings.
- Maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the field of signs and markings and incorporates new developments as appropriate into programs.
- Performs related work.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor degree in Business or Public Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, Planning, or related field.
- Four (4) years of municipal signs and markings, roadway maintenance or construction experience, including one (1) year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, and may be required to travel outside City boundaries to attend meetings.
- Ability to operate computer (keyboard & mouse), equipment controls, and office equipment.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting at waist; lifting objects weighing up to 35 lbs. and transporting distances up to 50 yards.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
- May occasionally work under adverse conditions such as inclement weather, dust, environment subject to sudden changes, wet or uneven surfaces and rough terrain.
- May encounter water, toxic fumes, liquids or gases, allergens around vehicles, moving equipment, electricity, and extremely noisy environments.
