Analytical Laboratory Technician
Summary/Objective: Get familiar with VEI analytical methods, help develop analytical methods utilizing complex instrumentation, and support the Analytical Laboratory Manager and Chemists in the daily operation of the analytical laboratory.

- Assist Analytical Laboratory Manager and Chemist(s)
- Maintain inventory of lab equipment and chemicals
- Perform daily glassware washing and other routine laboratory functions
- Perform daily balance and water system verifications
- Document activities in laboratory or project notebook(s)
- Perform various VEM analytical test methods, including, but not limited to: particle size, loss on drying, total ash, loose/tapped powder density, pH determination, moisture content, protein analysis.
- Operate analytical laboratory instrumentation such as the N-Realyzer protein analyzer, pH meter, centrifuge, analytical balances. Lab Technician may be trained on HPLC and ICP analysis of powered samples.
- Comply with all Safety, Good Laboratory Practices, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Work Environment
This job is operated in an office and lab environment. This role routinely involves lab equipment and standard office equipment such as computers, calculators, phones, and photocopiers.

Comprehension and expression of a level to routinely draft narrative information, compose routine correspondence on own initiative, make comprehensive notes in English. May involve a large volume of such composition.

Employee will occasionally lift and carry up to 44 pounds, push, and sit for extended periods of time, and repeatedly bend, Employee will frequently stand, reach over shoulder, use fingers for grasping, use both hands, use well developed coordination simultaneously, and may lift and carry up to 15 pounds. Employee read with attention to detail, seeing activities near and far, use depth perception and peripheral vision, be able to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors, smell, and use routine hearing ability.

Employee will occasionally work around dust and work with cleaning supplies and abrasives. Employee will frequently work around fumes, smoke or gases and work around fire. Employee will continuously work in an inside environment, work with solvents, acidic/caustic agents, as well as other laboratory chemicals.

Required Education, Skills and Experience
- Must have a minimum of BS in Chemistry or related scientific field
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and deadlines
- Ability to work extended weekday hours or rare Saturdays
