Assistant Project Manager/Project Engineer

The Assistant Project Manager/Project Engineer supports the evaluation of construction documents, performs takeoffs, analyzes costs, and helps coordinate bids on awarded utility and excavation projects. This role demands a proactive, technically skilled professional who works well independently and adapts quickly to changing demands and scopes.

You’ll work closely with the Project Manager on material procurement and subcontractor coordination, while serving as a liaison between field foremen and office staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and site conditions to validate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to collect pricing and technical data
  • Organize and maintain job files, historical cost data, and assist with change order pricing
  • Make timely, well-informed decisions to meet job and internal review requirements
  • Prioritize tasks effectively across multiple active projects while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness
  • Continuously build technical knowledge in underground utilities, excavation, and estimating tools/software
  • Quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, project types, and client requirements
  • Participate in project handoffs, reviews, and post-mortems to support continuous improvement
  • Navigate ambiguity in project documentation by asking questions, seeking clarity, and proposing practical solutions
