What You Will Do

As a part of the Department of the Comptroller, you will be supporting payroll operations. Under the direction of the Payroll Manager, you will help to ensure that employees receive their approved compensation in a timely and accurate manner. As the Payroll Technician, you will regularly interact with agencies and respond to staff in a supportive role while assisting the payroll team with compiling and reviewing payroll data. The work you do will support the payroll team and assist with compliance of all applicable laws and tax obligations.

Essential Duties

  • Greet and engage with employees in a professional and courteous manner for all their payroll needs. Serve as a point of contact for the payroll team.
  • Provide administrative and general technical support in overall office operations, assignments, and projects.
  • Compose, prepare, and process general and confidential correspondence, including routine reports, e-mail and faxes.
  • Maintain payroll information, files, and records, ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Compile and review timecard and payroll data and reports. Resolve basic discrepancies, calculate pay adjustments, and input data into payroll system.
  • Assist auditors by providing supporting documentation and/or information on internal process and procedures.
  • Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Proactively assist peers to create a supportive work environment.

You Might Be a Good Fit If

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • One or more years of related experience
  • A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.

Additional Information

  • Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
  • May require completion of a basic computer skills assessment.
  • May be required to work outside of standard hours.
