PFS is seeking 5 seasonal interns to assist with the preparation of our 34th Philadelphia Film Festival. We have part-time, hybrid internship positions with paid stipends in the areas of Film Festival Operations & Events, Venue and Technical Support, Guest Relations & Marketing, Education & Community Engagement, Development Support & Guest Services. Students who are enrolled in school can receive academic credit if school programs permit.
Internship Overview & Objectives:
The PFS Festival Internship is an opportunity for young adults ages 18-24. In this 10-week internship (Sept. 8 - Nov. 15), interns spend 3 weeks learning about the Philadelphia Film Society, through a series of research objectives, informational interviews, job shadowing, and attending PFS programming, events and meetings.
PFS Festival Interns will gain hands-on experience in festival operations, outreach, and events through the 34th Philadelphia Film Festival. Working primarily with the Education and Community Department for PFS, interns will gain practice organizing and promoting events, managing needs for special guests, content creating, video editing, handling badges and operations, assisting with field trips, communicating and meeting with partners, data tracking, and/or managing day-of needs for Festival-related and general PFS programs. Students will leave with experiential knowledge of how film can be used to inspire, educate, challenge, and entertain while bringing together various communities in and around Philadelphia.
Positions and Responsibilities:
All interns will have outreach, administrative, guest services, and event support responsibilities in addition to attending events and capturing event footage. Additional, role-specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Film Festival Operations & Events
Assist in coordinating festival logistics, making runs for festivals, organizing badges, event planning, and tracking data.
- Venue & Technical Support
Work alongside venue managers to set up for special events and Q+A’s, projectionist liaison, provide basic venue/ tech assistance for screenings and events.
- Marketing & Guest Services
Support with guest hospitality and pre-event check-ins. Capture photos of guests Q+A’s and video interviews of patrons, edit video content for YouTube, social media and archival purposes.
- Film Education & Community Engagement
Support school and partner outreach, help facilitate educational programs and trips, and coordinate community events and activities.
- Guest Services & Development
Aid in donor engagement, guest hospitality, lounge management, tracking in-kind donations, and assisting with sponsors during screenings and festival events.
Qualifications:
Interns should be able to work in a fast-paced environment, navigate Google Drive, have administrative experience along with knowledge and expertise in one of the following areas: venue support, event planning, administration, volunteering, people management, and/or community engagement. Ideal interns will have knowledge of: Google Suite, Instagram and Canva. Flexible schedules, evenings and weekend availability for events, and access to film society venues are a must.
PFS Internships are ideal for those interested in gaining immersive insight into Film Festival planning and/or how PFS works to achieve the mission of using film to inspire, educate, challenge, and entertain the greater Philadelphia community.
Compensation:
PFS internships are stipend positions offered for young adults who are seeking hands-on experience working with an arts nonprofit. The full stipend is $1050 split into two payments of $525. Transportation support can be provided if-needed.
Commitment:
Interns must be able to dedicate 12-15 hours/week between 11:00 AM and 5PM M-F to PFS work which includes one shift per week on site. NOTE: During the Philadelphia Film Festival (Oct. 16–26), interns will be required to work extended hours, consisting of 12-hour daily shifts, which include evening and weekend commitments as needed for events and screenings
Schedule: This hybrid internship requires 2, four-hour shifts per week, which must be on site on Tuesday and Thursday. During Week 2 of orientation (the week of Sept. 15) and the Philadelphia Film Festival (Oct. 16-26), interns will be in-person.
