The Center for News, Technology & Innovation (CNTI), an independent global policy research center, seeks to encourage independent, sustainable media, maintain an open internet and foster informed public policy conversations.

CNTI is seeking a Communications Trainee to support the Communications Lead in developing and implementing CNTI’s communications strategy, including by creating social media content, drafting press pitches and monitoring news developments related to CNTI’s issue areas.

Responsibilities

  • Draft social media content based on CNTI output
  • Create media lists and assist with journalist outreach
  • Track news related to CNTI’s issue areas to inform CNTI’s strategic approach
  • Contribute to CNTI’s monthly newsletter and other external outputs
  • Other tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a journalism, public relations, or related degree
  • Demonstrated interest in the journalism field
  • Prior experience contributing to institutional social media channels
  • Experience designing graphics with Canva
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relate effectively to the CNTI team and other partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Excellent writing and editing skills

Location: Remote in the United States

Pay: $22/hour

Schedule: The communications trainee will work a minimum of 15 hours a week and a maximum of 30 hours a week over the course of four to six months, with the possibility for extension. The number of hours and length of contract will be agreed upon before the candidate begins the traineeship.
