Children's Publicity Intern
Bloomsbury Children’s Books is seeking a publicity intern for the summer term. We are located in Midtown/Herald Square and publish bestselling and acclaimed picture book, middle grade, and young adult authors such as Salina Yoon, Kamilla Benko, Trang Thanh Tran, Kalynn Bayron, Brigid Kemmerer, and Renée Watson. This internship is hybrid in-office.
Position Profile
Bloomsbury Children’s Books is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, creative, and book loving person to join our Publicity team as a Publicity Intern 2-3 days per week. This person will work with the Children’s Publicity Department on a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction titles, from picture books through young adult novels.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist publicists with writing press materials and pitch letters
- Conduct research on media contacts, reviewers, bookstagrammers, and other publishing industry influencers
- Prep for and attends meetings internally, and with outside media and event contacts
- Work with publicists on review copy mailings and track publicity coverage
- Office maintenance including book ordering and upkeep of publicity databases
- Manage online publicity, including maintaining reviewer lists and databases, and managing NetGalley requests
- Monitor the Publicity inbox for incoming emails
- Opportunities to take on other publicity projects may also arise
Qualifications
- Must love books!
- Interest in pursuing a full-time position in publishing
- Passionate about learning about publicity and publishing in general
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be detailed-oriented, well-organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once
Educational Background Required
Working toward a 4-year degree or equivalent – seniors preferred – or working professional looking to transition into the industry.
Location
Bloomsbury has adopted a hybrid work policy comprising of two days in-office work and three days of remote work. Candidates must be able to commute to Bloomsbury’s New York City office on a mutually agreed-upon schedule for in-office work.
