Athletics Communications Internship

Athletics Communications Internship Program

Assist with the department’s promotional and public relations efforts for all 21 intercollegiate varsity sports within the Division I FBS program, while enhancing the overall image and brand of the University of Massachusetts and UMass Athletics. This position has the opportunity for both unpaid and paid roles dependent on resume and experience. The UMass Athletics Communications department is seeking students with a passion for sports who are looking to gain experience in communications, social media, media relations and website management. 

 

The support duties could include:

  • Assisting with planning, coordinating and directing media and public relations activities
  • Keeping abreast of current trends and developments in the field through social media platforms
  • Help create/develop content for social media channels
  • Preparation and dispersal of media materials including game notes, preseason stories, post-event recaps etc.
  • Coordinating and activating gameday and special event operations
  • Maintaining and creating editorial content for UMassAthletics.com (including roster and biography maintenance) and official social media platforms
  • Organizing and archiving (digital video and photography assets etc.)
  • Coordinating statical record keeping (in-game and for records books)
  • Writing press releases
  • Hours can be flexible, but game coverage includes nights and/or weekends
  • Potential opportunity to work directly with varsity programs as a primary or secondary communications contact
