SUMMARY:
Provide leadership, vision, and direction for the implementation of culturally responsive mathematics and science instruction in Washtenaw County.. Provide leadership, coordination, and training in the use of high quality instructional assessment practices in schools in Washtenaw County
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to examine how his/her/their position (directly or indirectly) impacts educational inequities in student achievement outcomes.
- Engages in reflection and ongoing learning and development on critical concepts and terms identified in the Washtenaw ISD Educational Equity Policy including concepts such as cultural proficiency, racial equity, and systemic and structural inequities.
- Provides leadership, direction, vision, and support for social justice and inclusive instructional practices in the network initiatives for which this position is responsible.
- Demonstrates the ability to examine the impact of educational inequities in student achievement outcomes as it aligns to race and ethnicity.
- Designs and delivers effective professional development in the area of mathematics and science as needed across the county/ individual school sites.
- Assists educators and school and district leaders in the development and implementation of a viable and coherent mathematics and science curriculums aligned with the Common Core State Standards, the Michigan Science Standards, and consistent with Michigan high school graduation requirements and college readiness standards.
- Assists local buildings in developing school improvement and action plans focused on mathematics and science improvement, as needed.
- Builds the capacity of local districts to continually assess and improve mathematics and science achievement for all students.
- Advances practices in mathematics and science instruction that support a personalized approach to teaching and learning.
- Advances evidence-based effective teaching practices in mathematics and science instruction for Washtenaw County Schools.
- Provides leadership in the implementation and use of Michigan Math and Science Standards.
- Provides leadership in the implementation and use of culturally responsive teaching practices in mathematics and science instruction.
- Supports and co-plans the Responsive Teaching Institute.
- Manages mathematics and science-related grants.
- Supports WISD vision and mission to enhance achievement for all students.
- Supports a team-based approach to design, planning, and implementation.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service.
- Maintains regular predictable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
- Masters in Mathematics Education (or equivalent degree that reflects deep content knowledge in mathematics and/or science instruction) .
- Proven track record of social justice and equitable education practices.

- Candidate must be able to provide evidence of the impact of their work in service of social justice and more equitable educational systems.
- Extensive classroom experience in mathematics instruction using NCTM standards and various reformed mathematics curriculum.
- Proven leadership in mathematics and/or science curriculum and instructional model development and implementation at the building and/or district level.
- Experience working with teachers to improve instructional practices (e.g. Critical Friends Group, Cognitive Coaching, Formative Assessment coaching experience, school improvement leadership).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with both classroom teachers and administrators at all levels.
- Proven leadership and/or extensive participation in school improvement processes at the building and/or district level.
- Demonstrated ability as mathematics and/or science mentor or coach for classroom teachers.
- Knowledge of schools as organizations, change theory, and research on effective methods for improving instruction and changing teacher practice.
- Strong facilitation skills.
- Ability to build rapport with others and to serve diverse publics.
- Excellent customer service and a client-centered focus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other departments, agencies and individuals.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals and professional journals.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a personal computer (PC) or MAC in a networked environment to utilize the Internet and other electronic communication mechanisms such as email conferencing.
- Knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software) and other technology to support efficient and effective office operation is required.
- Demonstrated ability to support implementation of mathematics and/or science curriculum and pedagogy K-12.
- Demonstrated ability to design and present professional development in the area of mathematics and/or science.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently, as well as cooperatively with diverse groups.
- Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations and forms
REASONING ABILITY:

TERMS:
Contract, salary, and other employment conditions to be established by the Board of Education as reflected in in the Non-Affiliated Staff Manual. Starting salary ranging (dependent upon experience) from $85,515 - $105,096.
