Job Description – Accounting Intern/Junior Staff Auditor
Are you interested in learning about auditing at a CPA Firm? How about making a difference in the State of Utah? Then come join the Office of the State Auditor, located on the beautiful Utah State Capitol Complex. We provide robust experiences in both financial and federal compliance audits. We seek motivated individuals who want to learn and grow. We will help you develop the skills necessary to become a successful auditor and leader, while bringing meaningful contributions to serve the State’s taxpayers.
What you will do
From day one as an intern, you will have the opportunity to learn the world of auditing, to collaborate with our diverse and seasoned team, and to work with professionals across the various state entities. You will practice hands-on auditing techniques, including mass data analysis, and develop team building, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
- Successful completion of Audit Course prior to beginning internship
- Ability to multitask in a team setting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong academic performance (minimum 3.2 major GPA and 3.2 overall GPA)
- US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or US National
- Ability to pass required background check

*Intern/Junior Staff Auditor must work full-time (40 hrs/week) for the first 3.5 - 4 months of the internship before the determination of part-time status can be made. While working full-time, interns are prohibited from taking classes with the exception of an internship/externship class. Part-time status with tele-commuting opportunities would be available for the Fall 2024 semester.
Compensation
$32/hour | This is a time-limited position with no benefits.

About the Office of the State Auditor
We provide Utah taxpayers and government officials with an independent assessment of financial operation, statutory compliance, and performance management, including through interactive graphical tools, for state and local government.
The Office performs financial audits, federal funds compliance audits, local government oversight, agency and program performance audits, fraud and compliance audits, reviews of privacy practices of designated governmental entities with the goal of improving privacy protection of Utahns, and operates the State Auditor Hotline for citizens to report suspected financial issues or improprieties. These capabilities strengthen Utah State Government and help taxpayers have confidence in the integrity of Utah’s government agencies.
The State Auditor is a Constitutional Officer of the State of Utah, elected directly by the state’s citizens every 4 years. The role of the State Auditor is authorized in Article VII, Section 15 of the Utah Constitution.
