Akron Community Internship Program: Unify America Community Engagement Intern

Unify America is a nonpartisan nonprofit on a mission to replace political fighting with problem-solving. We leverage technology and games to reduce political polarization and teach civic and problem-solving skills so Americans can work together to reach our shared goals. Together, we’re building interactive experiences that enable members of our community to learn and master critical civic skills alongside others who live outside their cultural, political, racial, geographic, and religious bubbles.

Position Overview

The Community Engagement and Events Intern will support the development of Unify America’s pilot democracy league program in Akron. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in community engagement and event production from grassroots strategies to non-profit infrastructure. The intern will work directly with Project Manager Kate Tucker to plan, promote, and execute community engagement initiatives and events. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on launching new website, social media, and newsletter 
  • Assist on video, audio, and written content production including interviews with local community members
  • Assist with planning and logistics for community events and pilot programs including 2-3 events with partner organizations (ex. Civic Saturday Akron)
  • Coordinate speaker and partner outreach (bios, photos, materials)
  • Support creation and distribution of marketing and promotional materials
  • Provide on-the-ground support during events
  • Draft and distribute surveys; collect and analyze feedback

Qualifications:

  • Interest in event planning, nonprofit marketing, content production, and/or community engagement 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Familiarity with tools such as HubSpot, Canva, Mailchimp, Google Docs, Slack, and social media platforms
  • Access to transportation
  • Availability for flexible hours, including early mornings/evenings as needed
  • Ability to work both remotely and in-person in Akron

 


Hours: 100 hours during the internship
Date: Fall  2025 (exact dates TBD to accommodate student schedules) 
Location: Remote/Flexible
