Operations Intern
Position Overview
DCA-ORA is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Operations Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in the core functions of business operations, with a focus on employee support, team collaboration, and technical workflow optimization.
The intern will contribute to improving internal processes, supporting employee engagement, and enhancing operational efficiency in a collaborative and mission-driven environment. This is a Paid Internship, lasting Up to 6 months, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding.
Ideal for recent graduates willing to work On-Site in Durham NC.
Key Responsibilities
Business Services & Technical Operations
- Support daily operations including procurement, vendor coordination, internal data tools, and facilities-related tasks
- Analyze and document technical workflows (e.g., system access, software deployment, incident escalation) to identify areas for improvement or automation
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), process maps, and technical documentation
- Collect, analyze, and report operational data using internal dashboards and tools
- Organize and maintain operational resources, including manuals and process guides
Employee Relations & Support
- Assist with onboarding, employee engagement initiatives, and internal communications
- Help coordinate team-building events and activities that foster a positive workplace culture
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Facilitate effective communication across teams to support cross-functional collaboration
- Assist with scheduling, preparing agendas, and documenting meeting notes
- Participate in projects aimed at improving team efficiency and system utilization
- Identify and propose opportunities to enhance team operations and cohesion
Preferred Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate in Business Administration, Operations Management, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Interest in the intersection of business operations, technology, and employee experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an understanding of systems and workflows
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with flowcharting tools, scripting (e.g., Python, VBA), or database concepts is a plus
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to changing priorities
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
