Financial Associate

POSITION: Financial Associate

Full Spectrum Features NFP is seeking a full-time Financial Associate who is passionate about racial/gender/disability justice and the power of cinema to effect social change. The Associate will work closely with Full Spectrum’s Finance & Business Operations team on both Full Spectrum and client productions on budget creation & management, tax credit administration, and other areas of film finances & accounting.

A successful Associate will be proactive, track and meet deadlines, execute the creation of deliverables in a timely manner, and communicate effectively. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a familiarity with basic financial concepts, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and other spreadsheet softwares.

Experience in the film industry is not necessary nor expected. The position is best-suited for people with career aspirations in the following areas: 1) film finance, entertainment legal affairs, and business operations, 2) production accounting, and 3) non-profit management and strategy.

Our core services include film production and impact distribution, as well as industry-leading educational and field-building initiatives.

Full Spectrum’s award-winning films have screened at over 500 festivals, micro-cinemas, museums, galleries, and alternative screening venues around the world. Notable recognitions include the NEXT Special Jury Award at Sundance (Desire Lines), Grand Jury Prize for Best U.S. Narrative at Outfest (Signature Move), Best Indie Series, Streamy Awards (the T), ReFrame Stamp (Freelancers Anonymous), and Outstanding Public History Project, National Council on Public History (The Orange Story).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Production budgeting, payroll, and payment coordination
    • Support in the supervision of production spend and monitoring production budgets
    • Actualizing production budgets
    • Input, review, and running payroll for productions within production payroll platform(s) e.g. Wrapbook, Media Services, Cast & Crew, etc.
    • Monitoring of FSF’s invoice intake portal and uploading invoices into our payment system, Ramp, for review and approval.
    • Coordinating with external accounting firms to manage bookkeeping.
    • Supporting cash flow management and the creation of actuals vs. budget reports.
  • Dashboard Management & data upkeep
    • Supporting the construction of, monitoring, and maintaining financial dashboards and project management systems for company wide initiatives and project based reporting.
  • Invoice & Other Paperwork Generation
    • Generate invoices to be sent to clients and production partners
    • Generate and manage sponsorship and donor paperwork from templates for productions
    • Payment processing of invoices
  • Tax Credit Coordination
    • Facilitate application process for production tax credit with IL Film Office
    • Collate all information into attestation sheets
    • Submit tax credit to FSF’s external CPA, respond to CPA & IL Film Office inquiries, and provide supporting documentation when necessary
    • Collect and collate demographic information into approved templates and submit to the IFO

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will be organized, prompt, professional, eager to learn, and have exceptional communication skills. This is an entry level position, therefore no prior experience is required; however, preference will be given to candidates with experience in other roles related to finance, accounting, or business services. Candidates are expected to have a basic financial acumen and familiarity with financial concepts. Other qualifications include:

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (online calendars, Slides, Sheets, Docs, GMail, Drive, etc.) and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with general accounting and financial practice and terminology.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to fast-paced, changing environments and needs.
  • Ability to work independently and research and test solutions first before looking to others for help.
  • Strong communication skills (via phone, email, and in-person)
  • Experience exercising discretion and confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to think proactively and prioritize work
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of Notion, Slack and LastPass

COMPENSATION: $43,000 - $45,000

JOB LOCATION: 

Full-time jobs at Full Spectrum are typically hybrid: 60% in-person, 40% remote. FSF has Chicago offices in Lincoln Park and Douglass Park on the Cinespace lot. The Finance team works in person at the Lincoln Park office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with flexibility options.
