Sustainability Intern (Part-Time)
Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid)
Hours: 20–30 hours per week
Compensation: $20/hour
Are you a recent graduate passionate about sustainability and eager to gain real-world experience in community engagement and project implementation? Brailsford & Dunlavey is seeking a Sustainability Intern to support a dynamic, high-impact initiative with local K–12 schools.
This is a temporary, part-time position expected to work 20–30 hours per week, with the potential to lead to full-time employment. The role is based in Oakland, CA, on a hybrid basis, which includes weekly in-office attendance and work-from-home opportunities.
What You’ll Do
Community Engagement
Lead student outreach and classroom-based activities
Support public-facing sustainability campaigns
Create engaging communication materials, including short videos, social media content, and parent communications
Represent the sustainability team at events and stakeholder meetings
Implementation Plan Support
Assist in drafting a district-wide sustainability implementation plan
Synthesize feedback and conduct research to integrate best practices
Help incorporate input from students, families, and the broader community
Administrative & Logistical Support
Organize project documents and support meeting logistics
Track stakeholder engagement and manage follow-up communications
Serve as an in-person support lead for school-based and community events
Who We’re Looking For
A recent undergraduate graduate with a degree in sustainability, environmental studies, public policy, or a related field
Based in the Bay Area with access to reliable transportation
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated interest in community-based work, especially in school or public-sector settings
A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and openness to working with diverse communities and perspectives
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to take initiative in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
