Student Leadership Coordinator

Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Leadership Coordinator. The Student Leadership Coordinator will handle administrative responsibilities related to the Nevada State Student Alliance (NSSA), including oversight of programs and services offered through the student group. In this role, the coordinator will assist the Associate Director in providing general advisement and supervision to the NSSA including financial oversight, close student mentorship and approval of hours for 23 student government elected officers. The coordinator will also provide campus-wide student leadership training and development opportunities. This position will assist the Associate Director of Student Life in coordinating and managing the student government structure and operations on a daily basis. The coordinator will serve as a member of the Office of Student Life team and support the development, implementation, and assessment of student life initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

Nevada State Student Alliance 

  • Advise and provide mentorship to the University’s student government in an efficient, effective, and supportive manner.
  • Provide direction and oversee student-related event planning and evaluation, promotion and publicity, membership recruitment and retention.
  • Make fiscally responsible decisions with oversight of NSSA and student organizations for budget preparation, expenditures and evaluation.
  • Work to increase the level of participation of students, faculty, and staff in student government related activities and programming.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Student Life in coordination of elections for student government representatives, including planning, promoting, and overseeing the election process.
  • Work with the business office to negotiate, review, and execute the completion of contractual agreements.
  • Plan, implement, and assess new student officer training programs.
  • Maintain compliance and stay up to date with Nevada State University, NSHE, Nevada and Federal policies as it pertains to this organization.
  • Accompany student government leaders to quarterly board of regent meetings and professional development conferences.

 

Student Leadership and Development 

  • Leadership Academy: Use a co-curricular model to implement leadership trainings, development opportunities.
  • Scorpions Serve: Create community partnerships and engage students in civic engagement opportunities to coordinate large scale service events. This could occur on and off campus.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Student Life in planning and executing the Southern Nevada student government yearly conference in addition to those events NSSA hosts. Assist the Associate Director of Student Life in assessment initiatives through participating in planning and finalizing student learning objectives for NSSA/Campus Wide Initiatives and coordinating and implementing the measurement of agreed upon student learning objectives.

 

Student Life and Campus Engagement 

  • Plan and execute campus engagement opportunities in addition to those events NSSA hosts.
  • Serve as a member of student life committees (i.e. Welcome Week) and foster relationships by serving on committees across campus.
  • Maintain the student engagement platform (currently Presence) related to needs for NSSA and serve as back up administrator. Support all functions of the Office of Student Life.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree form an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education.
  • Two (2) years of relatable experience.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Knowledge of student development theory.
  • Experience working with student organizations and leaders.

 

Salary & Benefits

Budgeted salary for this position is $61,553. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 19.25% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
