**THIS POSTING APPLIES TO LATERAL APPLICANTS ONLY. Applicants must have current Peace Officer POST certification and at least two (2) years’ field/patrol experience to qualify as a lateral transfer.
Physical Agility Testing and Oral Board Interviews will occur in July/August in Boise, Idaho. Anticipated start date is October 2025.
Physical Agility Testing Dates: 07/24/25 and 08/06/25
Oral Board Interview Date: 08/07/25
General Summary
As the law enforcement support for the CSB, this position will assist Ada County Pretrial Services, Ada County Alternative Sentencing and Ada County Misdemeanor Probation with non-compliant participants by responding to calls and complaints throughout Ada County. This position will assist Probation Officers in the field, monitor a high-risk caseload of pretrial defendant and support Alternative Sentencing by carrying out their law enforcement needs. This position will be a team resource for all three areas. Due to the three areas working for the courts, this position will have the unique opportunity to have access to many components of the criminal justice system.

PAY SCHEDULE FOR LATERALS
Level III = Currently POST certified with 2-5 years of full-time field/patrol experience as a certified Peace Officer.
Base = Either (1) Current Idaho Advanced POST certificate or equivalent OR (2) Five or more years of full-time field/patrol experience as a certified Peace Officer.

Essential Functions
- Determines if a crime or violation has been committed: gathers information, interviews witnesses, processes evidence, conducts investigations, and makes arrests;
- Carefully documents facts and testifies in court in connection with arrests and violations;
- Continuing and ongoing relationships with public and private agencies are expected;
- Enforces all orders handed down by the court;
- Following established legal procedures that brings violations of the probationer or pretrial defendant to the attention of the court;
- Determines when circumstances warrant modification of court orders and initiates the necessary action to procure a decision by the court on such modification;
- Performs various public relations activities, such as addressing community groups, participating in conferences, panels, etc., of other agencies;
- Attends Pretrial and Misdemeanor Probation staff meetings;
- Coordinates with Deputies in unincorporated Ada County and ACSO contract cities to assist with court orders and investigations;
- Conducts workplace verifications on offenders and probationers;
- Assists Work Release, SLD, and home arrest programs with their law enforcement needs;
- Acts as law enforcement liaison to our partner agencies in the valley;
- Responds to questions and maintains communication with the judges, private defense counsel, Public Defender’s Office, Prosecutor’s Office, County Clerk’s, and the public.
Additional Functions
- May be assigned to special assignments as needed; and
- Performs related duties as required.
Job Requirements
- Must be a certified Peace Officer or eligible to challenge the Idaho POST Academy;
- Must have at least two (2) years of full-time field experience as a commissioned officer in a recognized law enforcement agency;
- Must be at least 21 years of age;
- Must be a citizen of the United States;
- Must be able to read, interpret, and memorize large amounts of information relating to policies, procedures, laws, and police operations;
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- Skill in the peaceful resolution of conflict and diffusing tense situations;
- Ability to effect a forceful arrest;
- Ability to hear, listen to, and understand radio transmissions using an ear piece;
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and prepare clear, comprehensive reports;
- Ability to give accurate and credible testimony in court;
- Ability to take criticism and verbal abuse from persons without reacting in a negative manner;
- Ability to project an image of self-confidence and control;
- Ability to evaluate and recognize potentially adverse or unsafe situations and react according to department policy;
- Ability to perform the duties of the position without a direct threat to the health or safety of the incumbent or others; and
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Other Requirements
- Must pass the Idaho POST physical agility test, a polygraph exam, background investigation, medical exam and a psychological evaluation;
- Must become Idaho POST certified as a Peace Officer within one year of employment;
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a current Idaho Driver’s License;
- This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work is performed primarily around offenders and involves an element of personal danger;
- Requires sufficient physical strength to extract injured persons from a variety of situations and to apprehend, search, and arrest individuals, some of whom may resist;
- May require movement over various types of terrain; e.g. hilly, steep, rocky, rough, wet, or slippery surfaces;
- Requires the use of first-aid and CPR techniques when necessary;
- Requires the use of a firearm;
- Must be able to work all work shifts; may involve long days.
