Health Analysis Project Lead

The Staff Air Pollution Specialist (SAPS) position is located within the Health and Ecosystem Analysis Section (HEAS) in Research Division’s Health and Exposure Assessment Branch. The HEAS provides scientific and technical support for the Board’s efforts to achieve statewide air pollution and climate goals.
This rewarding and challenging position is responsible for leading and providing technical expertise for the expanded health analysis project to support the board’s rules, plans, and programs. The incumbent will develop and oversee this complex project including planning work and production of deliverables to meet project timelines. The incumbent will also coordinate with staff across the agency to understand regulatory analysis needs, provide information on health analysis methods and outcomes, and identify potential new areas of research on health outcomes or health analysis tools. An important aspect of this work is researching and developing new methods to understand community level impacts. This will also include coordination with other agencies developing or refining health analysis methodologies.
Also, the incumbent will work closely with management on implementation of new health outcomes in analysis including internal briefings, external public meetings, and other review processes. It is also an essential component of this position to communicate effectively about health effects in written and verbal presentations to a wide range of audiences including internal staff, other agencies, and the public through reports, correspondence, meetings, and workgroups.

Working Conditions
This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency's discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards' (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.
The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense, as indicated on their duty statement.
