Coroner's Office Intern

Internship Program

Duties & Responsibilities
This internship is a "hands-on" experience with graduated responsibility that gives an in depth look at the Coroner's Office and is aimed at helping the student(s) decide future career paths.

  • Interns will potentially have an opportunity to participate in an internship exchange program, allowing students to shadow investigators at other Coroner Offices and gain a comprehensive understanding of the profession.
  • Interns will explore all facets of the County Coroner's Office, which includes, but is not limited to working alongside experienced coroner investigators learning how to perform death scene investigation, evidence collection and documentation.
  • Interns will learn the skills of communicating efficiently and effectively with local law enforcement, family of deceased, and other involved parties.
  • Post mortem body examinations with our investigators that entails detailed forensic photo documentation, toxicology and evidence collection.


Requirements

  1. Currently enrolled at College/University.
  2. You must be a junior, senior, or graduate student in good academic standing
  3. All majors are accepted but forensics and other related fields are preferred
  4. Interns must be available for the required business hours and after hours.
  5. Must have reliable transportation

Process

If you are interested in obtaining an internship with the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Contact your department’s intern supervisor to start the internship application/waiver.

2. Email a copy of your resume and cover letter to Theresa or Octavious.

3. An investigator will then contact you to set up an interview in exploring your potential as an intern. NOTE: This process should begin at least one semester before the semester you wish to intern. It is strongly encouraged to be registered for more than 6 internship semester hours. This is necessary to obtain the full benefit of the internship experience.
