Position Description
Forester Athletics is seeking a motivated, creative, and driven student to serve as the Athletic Communications Intern for Fall 2025. This role provides a well-rounded experience in social media management, graphic creation, content writing, video creation, editing, organizing multimedia content, and other special projects within the Athletic Department. The intern will play a key role in managing the Forester Athletics social media accounts, developing engaging content, and supporting our marketing efforts across various platforms.
This internship is an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in sports communication, digital/multimedia content creation, and marketing.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of Forester Athletics' social media accounts, including planning, creating, and posting content that engages and grows our audience.
- Capture photos and videos at athletic events and on-campus activities to produce engaging content.
- Create and edit graphics for social media, video boards, marketing materials, and newsletters.
- Maintain and publish content on GoForesters.com.
- Assist with organizing, archiving, and managing multimedia content such as photos, videos, and written materials.
- Contribute to written and video features for the F.A.N. Club and Athletics programs.
- Assist with compiling content for weekly F.A.N. Club newsletters, including writing and editing articles.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure consistency and quality across all communications platforms.
- Support other special Athletic Department projects as assigned.
Special Project
The Communications Intern will develop and implement a comprehensive social media marketing campaign aimed at boosting engagement, increasing followers, and enhancing Forester Athletics' brand image across all social media platforms.
- Social Media Audit & Strategy Development
- Conduct a thorough review of Forester Athletics’ existing social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube).
- Identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
- Develop a detailed social media strategy focusing on growth, engagement, and brand consistency.
- Content Creation & Management
- Plan and execute weekly content calendars, including graphics, videos, newsletters, and feature stories.
- Create and edit high-quality visuals and videos for platforms and video boards.
- Develop branded templates for consistent social media aesthetics.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure alignment with the department's overall communication goals.
- Promotional Campaigns
- Design and implement at least one promotional campaign (e.g., “Forester Fan of the Week,” “Game Day Spotlights,” or “Throwback Thursdays”) to drive engagement.
- Multimedia Content Archiving
- Develop a system to organize and archive multimedia content for easy retrieval and future use.
- Ensure all assets are properly tagged and stored for accessibility.
- Performance Analysis & Reporting
- Track analytics and engagement metrics throughout the semester.
- Prepare a final report summarizing results, challenges, successes, and areas for future improvement.
- Present findings and recommendations to the internship supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Motivation to pursue a career in sports communication, marketing, or related fields.
- Major/minor in marketing, communications, or related field (preferred but not required).
- Strong social media skills, including familiarity with trends, platform management, and audience engagement.
- Proficiency in graphic design and video editing software such as Photoshop, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Flexible schedule with availability for home games (nights, weekends, and holidays required) in addition to regular office hours and remote work as needed.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with a positive and personable demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Important Information
This is a paid on-campus internship opportunity at Lake Forest College. This experience is intended to be completed for academic credit as part of the Career Advancement Center’s Academic Internship Program. This means interns will register for a 1.0 credit online internship course with the CAC, which must be completed concurrently with at least 10-15 hours of weekly internship work, for a total of 150 hours over the semester.
