Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services

DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services shall be directly responsible to the Superintendent for the curriculum and instructional services of the District.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Cabinet.
  • Implements and interprets instructional policies, procedures and practices to staff and the community.
  • Coordinates and monitors the implementation of specific action plans and timelines to achieve annual District goals in curriculum, instruction and student achievement.  
  • Institutes and supervises procedures for development of short and long range educational plans for the District.
  • Develops, monitors, updates and evaluates the District Local Control Accountability Plan.
  • Assists in preparation of Board policies and administrative regulations relating to all facets of the instructional program for Board approval. 
  • Supervises the operation and administration of District programs under Pupil Services, Special Education, Library Media Services, Elementary and Secondary Curriculum and Instructional programs and Directors, Multilingual Learners Program, Instructional Technology Program and Director, Teachers on Special Assignment, classified staff as assigned, and other instructional programs.
  • Supervises the Director of Pupil Services who is responsible for the operation of the following areas: Special Education, Psychological Services, Health Services, and District Safety Programs. 
  • Directs and supervises District curriculum committees and instructional teams and facilitates the articulation process in TK-12 curriculum and instruction.
  • Coordinates the District standardized testing programs and analyses of student results.
  • Coordinates the District systems for reporting student progress to parents/guardians. 
  • Improves instructional outcomes through the use of data analysis and continuous, systematic evaluation of student progress including a process of identifying and modifying curricular offerings as needed.
  • Meets regularly with all instructional department heads and Principals to coordinate existing and proposed programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of current State and Federal legislation related to instructional services, and makes recommendations to the Superintendent in areas of needed compliance.
  • Assists in planning, directing, and coordinating the District's professional development program.
  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates all immediate subordinates.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

Current theories, practices and procedures relative to the management of District level operations in instructional services; standards-based instruction and curriculum alignment in a K-12 school district; development, coordination, and implementation of a variety of budgets

 

Ability to:

Direct the development and implementation of significant districtwide curricular activities; plan, organize and direct the work of others; prepare clear and concise written statements of policy and administrative procedures; evaluate instructional programs and prepare reports as needed; direct, manage and evaluate personnel

 

Education/Experience:

Earned advanced degree, Minimum five years service as a K-12 teacher. At least five combined years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in public school service

 

Credentials/Certifications:

Appropriate administrative services credential
