Risk Management Intern

JOB SUMMARY:

The Risk Management Intern supports the department regarding aspects of corporate insurance programs. Responsibilities include compilation of underwriting information, and compliance of insurance for vendors, subcontractors and clients of Western National Group entities. Ensures all insurance records are updated and current in internal database systems. Interfaces with insurance brokers and professionals to complete and maintain insurance requirements per contract and project.

 

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for maintaining databases, assisting with monitoring and oversight of insurance agreements and serving as liaison with vendors.
• Performs data collection and reporting activities to ensure insurance schedules are current and accurate.
• Assists with insurance policy administration including annual preparation of applications for insurance, coverage placement and monitoring insurance policies to ensure endorsements are accurate and filed appropriately.
• Assists with due diligence activities for various acquisitions.
• Conducts Risk Management Audits.
• Obtains and maintains insurance records in the system for all existing and new contracts and projects.
• Creates sample certificates based on contractual requirements.
• Assists with subcontractor compliance for WNC/WNB projects, and vendor/supplier insurance compliance for WNPM.
• Assists with General Liability and Property insurance renewals for WNPM managed and owned properties.
• Communicates with brokers and insurance professionals in regards to insurance coverage, contracts and endorsements.
• Communicates with vendors and subcontractors regarding insurance and compliance with regards to the contractual requirements.

• Communicates and interfaces with WNPM, WNC/WNB, RGS and other divisions (as needed) in regards to insurance and compliance.
• Monitors insurance cancellation notices received from broker and/or carrier.
• Follows up with vendor/subcontractor and/or impacted property, division, or project.
• Reviews contracts on an as needed basis.
• Assists with monthly department statistic reports.
• Assists the department with special projects as needed.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A working understanding of insurance terms, concepts and application.
• A working understanding of principles and practices of insurance underwriting.
• A working understanding of property, casualty, and workers compensation liability insurance trends and practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft office, insurance and/or claims management software and all office equipment.

 

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATION:
• Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance .
• Certification in the insurance industry preferred.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Recommend cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
• Majoring in business-related studies
• Current student or have just graduated in May 2025

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Corporate office environment, frequent standing, sitting, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, climbing stairs, fine hand manipulation (keying, mousing), reaching, simple grasping (answering phone) and occasional lifting or carrying objects up to 20 lbs.

 

EQUIPMENT/MACHINERY: Personal Computer, Printer, Scanner, Fax, Copy Machine, Calculator, Telephone.
