Reports to:

Grey Hilliard-Koshinsky, Founding Executive Director

Total Hours: 

10 –17 hours/week

Location:

Hybrid – 5 hours in-office hours/week at 2 Bank St, Fall River, MA 02721

Pay:

$18 per hour (eligible for academic credit or practicum hours)

Duration:

Spring, Summer or Fall Session (Rolling Applications Accepted)

Performance Checkpoints:  

Weekly supervision, task-based evaluation, and timesheet tracking

 


 

About The Advocacy Bridge:
The Advocacy Bridge is seeking a highly organized and motivated Operations & Community Engagement Intern for a structured 130-hour internship. This internship is ideal for undergraduate or graduate students pursuing experience in nonprofit operations, outreach, and event coordination. This Intern will work closely with the Executive Director in a hybrid environment and receive weekly supervision and mentoring.

This is a performance-based internship: you’ll be evaluated on task completion, communication, reliability, and ability to meet outlined goals. All hours must be completed during the agreed upon internship period whether that be spring, summer or fall semester.

Internship Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this internship, you will be able to:

  • Apply administrative and outreach tools to strengthen nonprofit systems
  • Coordinate and document communication with diverse stakeholders
  • Support event logistics and donor management with consistent tracking
  • Contribute to grant writing preparation through research and early drafts
  • Demonstrate growth in strategic planning, outreach, and operations support

Key Responsibilities by Focus Area:

  1. CARE Advocate Pre-Service Training & Capacity Building 
    1. Call, email, and text volunteer applicants using templates provided
    2. Log all communications using standardized contact sheets
    3. Use mail merge and direct individual outreach. Invite and confirm speakers for summer pre-service training sessions, including:
      1. Lawyer Panel
      2. Intro to DCF with Attorney McGann
      3. Lived Experience Panel
      4. Domestic Violence Training
      5. Fall River Re-Creation Community Violence Training
    4. Research and contact new community partners in Bristol County, especially in trafficking and domestic violence prevention (e.g., New Hope, My Life My Choice)
    5. Conduct and document reference checks for prospective volunteers
    6. Outreach to community organizations and for-profit companies for the purpose of setting up 15-20 minute presentations about The Advocacy Bridge CARE Advocate Program

Success Measure: 100% of the existing pool of applicants contacted and logged; 4+ speakers confirmed; all notes tracked and submitted. Achieve enrollment of 15-20 applicants into the CARE advocate Summer pre-service training class, recruited and vetted

  1. Grant Research & Early Writing 

Identify 5+ grant opportunities aligned with The Advocacy Bridge

Draft 2 Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) to potential funders

Begin developing content for 2 full applications (narrative, budget, or attachments)

Success Measure: Grant tracker updated and maintained; 2 LOIs submitted; initial narrative writing completed, 1 - 2 grants drafted and submitted in partnership with ED

  1. Gala Planning Support for Annual Fundraising Event

Inventory silent auction items received: photograph and save with standardized file naming (YYYY_MM_Item Description_Silent Auction)

Maintain and update the silent auction inventory spreadsheet

Mobilize and facilitate Fundraising Committee(s) associated with the launch of this event

Coordinate with Assigned Volunteer on outreach for high-value auction items

Create and send donor acknowledgments for received items

Build a record-keeping system to track acknowledgments and communications

Success Measure: 100% of received silent items photographed, filed, inventoried and donors acknowledged; tracking system fully functional and up to date, High-value silent auction items solicited in partnership with task specific recruited volunteers

Internship Commitments:

  • Total hours completed during the agreed upon time timeframe
  • Approx. 15–17 hours/week
  • 3–5 in-office hours per week with the Executive Director
  • Weekly supervision meetings
  • Submit weekly timesheets
  • Participate in mid-internship and final performance evaluations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Comfortable with phone and email outreach
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Sheets)
  • Interest in nonprofit leadership, operations, or community work
  • Lived experience with foster care, child welfare, or family separation is highly valued
