Ypsilanti Puentes Multilingual School Building Administrator

Position Title:      Building Administrator

Building:                  Ypsilanti Puentes Multilingual School

Salary:                    Commensurate with education/experience

Reports to:           This position reports to and is evaluated by the Superintendent

Qualifications:

  • Michigan Teacher Certification.
  • Michigan Administrator Certificate
  • A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience at the elementary level is preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred

District Summary: 

Ypsilanti Community Schools is seeking an exceptional, bilingual, and visionary leader to serve as the founding Principal of our new Ypsilanti Puentes Multilingual School( a Dual-Language Spanish Immersion School). This innovative K-4 program builds upon years of community commitment, teacher expertise, and a growing demand for bilingual, biliterate scholars. We are looking for a principal who brings deep knowledge of immersion education, serves as a student centered leader with a heart for community, and the ability to lead with clarity, compassion, and courage.

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Lead through the leveraging of the district systems and routines, while maintaining a drive for results by demonstrating persistence, directness, and the ability to monitor and plan ahead.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the district's vision for high-quality, subject specific instruction and the capacity to coach teachers for growth in instructional routines.
  • Administer a system of ongoing data collection and analysis through collaborative routines to inform a continuously responsive and adaptive system of tiered instruction.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, board policies, and civil regulations.
  • Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for scholars consistent with the district’s philosophy, mission statement, and instructional goals.
  • File all required reports regarding violence, vandalism, attendance, and discipline matters.
  • Establish a professional rapport with scholars and staff to create a respectful work environment.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with scholars, parents, and school personnel.


Staffing

  • Provide expert guidance and support to immersion teachers, grounded in an in-depth understanding of the pedagogical, linguistic, and cultural components of dual language programming.
  • Recruit, supervise, and inspire a team of dynamic bilingual educators and support staff.
  • Provide consistent coaching and leadership development through modeling, mentorship, and trust-building.
  • Conduct evaluations and support continuous improvement through observation, feedback, and collaborative professional growth plans.
  • Leverage and monitor the talent management district system to recruit, hire, assign, evaluate, retain, and/or remove the instructional talent required to impact scholar and teacher performance.
  • Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning, child growth, and development.
  • Supervise fairly and consistently, effective discipline and attendance systems with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the district.

Community

  • Build meaningful relationships with families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds by communicating fluently in English and Spanish.
  • Serve as a relatable leader who listens with empathy, fosters belonging, and engages families as partners in the educational journey.
  • Conduct community events, family learning nights, and bilingual outreach.
  • Maintain visibility with scholars, teachers, parents, and the district.
  • Communicate regularly with parents to create a cooperative relationship and support the scholar in school and at home.
  • Initiate and maintain consistent communication with community members and partners, building on and leveraging their strengths as co-educators

Scholars

  • Create a calm, joyful, and structured learning environment where scholars are known, respected, and challenged to reach their fullest potential.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages scholars to take responsibility for their behavior creates high morale among staff and scholars.

Instructional Practices

  • Lead the design and daily implementation of a high-quality, rigorous Spanish immersion academic program aligned with state standards, biliteracy pathways, and immersion best practices.
  • Ensure alignment with immersion models, including language allocation plans, content instruction in both languages, and scaffolding for emerging bilinguals.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all scholars and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
     

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain efficient procedures and effective controls for the expenditure of school funds in accordance with the adopted budget, subject to the direction and approval of the district.
